I think having notes and purchased notes over for self studying is quite pointless. At the end of the day, nothing beats a good teacher who is able to pin point the mistakes that a child makes and teaching him/her how to avoid such mistakes in future.

        Mindstretcher @ Bukit Panjang Plaza:

Pretty disappointed with Mindstretcher, I would advise all parents who keen to sign up for your child, do give a serious thought before you enroll as they are accepting only top student and no wonder it is branded.

I have signed up for 3 subjects: English, Maths and Science. I withdraw English very soon when I started to revise the paper and noticed that it was too challenging for my child. Also, the teachers from the others 2 subjects have made comments to withdraw my child out from Mindstretcher due to his dyslexia. Although he scored 60+ for CA1, which I think they are looking at 70 and above. If my son can score \"A\", I will not even give any tuition as now education is so stressful.

Quite sad about it, but think it over their papers is pretty tough and may be a waste of time and stress for the child who can't cope.

In the first place, Mindstretcher should learn from others centre to test on the child ability before any registration and not deprive the child instead of motivation.

Does anyone face the same issue? Or anything to share on or suggestion?
I am quite against testing on child's ability before acceptance at centers unless it is something like high achievers or the gifted class. I didn't let my kids try HA even though they qualified based on sch grades. They are still/were in the Achiever classes.

Hi, does any parents here have your kids with MS’s (BP plaza branch) P1 English and Maths Head Start program? May i know the teacher-student ratio and your comments about this program?

I’ve enquired with Kent Ridge Education Centre (Junction 10) and found it not too bad. But looking at the fees, seems like MS is cheaper, comparing based on the class duration (only).

          Thanks!!

Hi, I do agree with you on the ability test before acceptance. However as of no better solution, I would rather a test beforehand than to ask to quit when halfway through that demoralize your child and affect self-esteem. Anyway, it is a wrong option to select MS and this is just an alert of my concern to all parents.

Hi, not sure if you have read my previous comment? My child has attended both KRTC and MS and due to the time conflict, I have switched him from KRTC to MS this year. Importantly, the teachers at KRTC is much more passion and understanding. Yes, in terms of the fees, MS is cheaper, but looking at the overall. The student ratio is 16/class and KRTC is 5-8 and the teachers are not able to cope such a big group as per my experience. Not to forget, the makeup lesson is flexible. Unlike MS, it is NO unless school letter of activity or MC to verify but subject to the availability of others class. I have a hard time to get my refund back even though my child was asked to go for immediate withdrawal and the attitude of the management is pretty bad. Lastly, I would like to emphasize again that the acceptance of high score as a misleading of their popularity. The teachers have claimed that their paper is very challenging and majority students have failed, so what do you think if the children will lose interest in the long run?

Hi Gina, thanks a lot for your honest sharing! The student ratio is indeed better for KRTC. I didn't find out about the make-up lessons for both centres though. Thanks for this tip, I had better enquire as well.
So is your child back with KRTC again? Is it Junction 10 branch?

                  Thanks!

No, the MS teachers' comments had impact him, he has refused to take up any tuitions. Now I am looking into Superstar teachers as he was keen on. Have you tried it as the review was pretty good.

Oh that sounds bad! I'm looking at P1 Preparatory classes (my son is just K2 now :p) and the last thing I want is to create a negative impression on my boy for such external academic classes!
I've heard about Superstar Teacher but only from TV ads. But since its just to prep him for P1, maybe not in my consideration at this stage. I'm just looking for somewhere nearer to home. 🙂

There is Online trial lesson, and perhaps you can sit down with your son to try out. Their lesson begins from P1 to sec 2. Initially I wasn’t very keen and thought it was just a normal e-learning. But after we tried, I find that this is as good as going to tuition centre, especially my son who is having short span of attention. Importantly, he likes it as he has asked me to log in everyday. The testimonial was good too, so I decided to give a try. Hopefully this can help him.
