Compare RGS vs NYGH

There is nothing wrong with this approach. Even world renowned universities do this, and this is only secondary school DSA. It is an acknowledgement that results can be affected by where the student comes from, ie. the student who was not from those schools you mentioned was handicapped by being in the 'not so good' primary school. All the more so when the said 'not so good' schools actually followed MOE's guidelines of putting students in mixed ability classes.
I have verified how NYGH selects student from Madam Heng directly during the tea session. She said and I quote her here. \"I will rank the students from the same primary school together, and from there, they will give CO to some of the students from the same school eventhough there are many of them which is better some students from another school. This is for our survivor.\" So, if your child is from GEP school, the chances for your child will be lesser as they will only offer certain number of CO to the whole lots of students from that school, as to provide \" diversity\".I personally feel that this method is not right, as every applicant is not given equal right based on merit, but based on where you come from, i.e Primary school. Therefore, School like RGPS, Rosyth school, Nan Hua, Tao Nan..etc... many of the outstanding girls were surprise they were given WL instead of CO. (This is my personal opinion of the definition of outstanding girl).
\"Merit\" is not just about who had better marks. For that, there is always PSLE. -

I agree with you. In fact, it is not even easy for Mdm Heng to do this.

you did not read the part I quote properly. Those thing I quote, was said directly by Madam Heng, not define by me.
You rebutted without reading.... -
I know some girls prefer RGS but their parents prefer NYGH and vice versa.
Personally, I feel that if you decided to try both, please be prepared that you are ok with either one, otherwise, if only any one of these 2 schools gives you a CO, you may just not accept it or you may have hard time deciding whether to accept the CO.
Example, this girl prefers RGS, mummy is ok with either one, so mummy encouraged the girl to apply both and she did.
When results is out, only NYGH issued a CO, girl didn’t receive CO or WL from RGS.
As this girl had strong preference for RGS, she decided to wait for PSLE T-score and decided to turn down NYGH CO.
Mummy felt wasted if just give up NYGH CO. Girl insisted to wait, so mummy had no choice but to respect the girl’s decision.
Good news, girl got high T-score that enable her to enter RGS, mummy was relieved, the girl was happy.
But, what would have happened if the girl didn’t score well enough to go RGS? Can’t even enter NYGH with her T-score (NYGH COP is higher than RGS)
So parents and girls, have a good thought about it. Is always nice to receive more than 1 COs, but it doesn’t happen to every girl.
Is really about you, which school do you strongly prefer. -

And therefore it should be commended for following the spirit of MOE policies, which is to look beyond a narrow view of education. Things like character, diversity, mixed ability classes etc.what is done these two sxhool needs to be answerable to the general public. I was saying the policy adopted by nygh is not fair to each applicant. Since they are funded by tax payer money through, every applicant shd be treated equally.Meritocarcy is the fundamental of our society.
NYGH is just recognizing what parents already know - that not all primary schools are equal. I do not see anything wrong with NYGH's approach to DSA. -

Turning the clock back to Aug last year, if, I say IF, your dd was given CO from both NYGH and RGS, which would you choose? -

Hi 678Yess, there is no right or wrong DSA approach by nygh. The head of the school has the right to decide what kind of students they want for DSA. When your kids are in uni going age, you will realize that most top unis (e.g. Harvard, MIT) prefers diversity and uniqueness. They definitely do not want students from the same mould and factory, no doubt many are straight A students. For instance, this year MIT accepted 4 or 5 students from S'pore. Mind you, none from RI and HCI. And one of them is from poly!
