Of course it’s NOT a must to go overseas if you go SOTA. If you do the IB Diploma, you graduate with an IB Diploma, just like those from ACSI and SJI Independent, and can apply to local universities like SMU, NTU, NUS etc, subject to meeting their entry requirements. But none of these local universities offer VA as a degree.


So if your cousin’s kid wants a VA degree, she will have to go overseas eventually anyway, whether or not she enrols in SOTA.

Most SOTA students would want to continue pursuing higher education in Arts, they are likely to go overseas for their University education. I don't think many ended up in local Uni.


NUS/NTU has their entry requirements for IB diploma on their websites.

Yes I saw their requirements but in reality I want to know how many kids actually go into local university. I m chkg for my cousin. If it is a must the kids need to go overseas my cousin hav second thoughts as she do not want kids to go overseas. She prefer kids to do local. Kid is interested in VA.

It is sometimes difficult to change their minds after submitting them to 6 years of Arts education. If the objective is to go to local Uni to study something else other than Arts, it is better to go to a non-Arts school.

Fyi, only a handful do double science subjects by dropping their Art form. That is IB requirement. So most SOTA students cannot to to Med school in local Uni because they have only 1 science subject.

Yes, the Literary Arts students will have to choose either Film or Theatre in IB Year 5/6. It is unlikely they will be able to do Dance, Music or VA, as they wouldn't have had the requisite foundation their peers in these art forms acquired from Year 1-4.


I clarified this with SOTA at their open house. Film is a subject that is only offered in Year 5/6 anyway. A SOTA Film student I spoke to switched from VA to Film in Year 5/6, so i guess that's also a possibility for students of other art forms if they are keen.

Does not seem to make sense to me for Sota to start a new Lit Arts course (supposedly focused on creative writing) only to make the students choose another arts genre for their IB subject - film/theatre scriptwriting skill will not be sufficient for them to take on Film or Theatre as an art form subject.

I'll ask Sota and see what they say.

Am new here and a little anxious for my kiddie. My child has been shortlisted for the upcoming TA. I read that for most Dance students, there will not be much time (nor energy) for outside dance classes. This would mean that the kids will not be able to finish their RAD syllabus once they decide to join SOTA. In applications to other dance schools (post SOTA or even for summer schools) etc, most ask for their level of dance qualification. How then do the other dance schools take to such disruption viz-a-viz SOTA dance education? How would their disrupted/unfinished RAD learning impact the kids’ dance future? Does it mean that they would need to complete their syllabus post SOTA? Would love to hear from past, present and future parents and students. Thank you.

Not yet. Was told to bring it along on Wednesday when they do the entrance tests.

Not yet for us too. I thought we missed it cos we are just back from travelling. Just called the school to check and have been advised that they will send out an email for us to upload this week.

To play safe, better bring hard copies during the tests though.
