Hello all,
Need some advice.
My son is weak in MT and he dropped Higher MT in P5. His ave MT score sits in the range of B-C. He is currently in a SAP school. He is weak in the language but he is blessed with great MT teachers in his school. His strength is Maths (only) and has done fairly well in the Math Olympiad competitions in the past. Really not sure if he can cope with the Chinese demand in HCI. He attended the OH and loved it. Many of his seniors are in HCI as well and have shared their personal experiences with him. He wants to go to HCI so we are thinking of trying DSA through acad domain. Appreciate if any moms/dads could share your personal experiences. Thanks heaps.
Hi,
It is a bonus if he takes Higher MT. But it is not a must to qualify to HCI.
As your child is good Math Competition, you shall let him have a try. The last day of online registration is 02 June. Do not miss the deadline if you want to let your child have a try.
The students will be sitting for written tests in 3 subjects, which are English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics. Our tuition centre offers Math DSA preparation class coached by ex-setter of RGS/RI DSA paper. You may PM me if you are interested. Or visit us at http://www.fa.edu.sg
Good luck! -
It has been 6 months since school starts, my boy is enjoying his first year. What about the rest? Even though there are many camps and cca practice, he is still excited about his school and new friends.

Can I check with any of you whose child got in to HCI through DSA. What is being tested during the ENG, CHI and MATH domain tests? And what is being asked at interviews?

Hi parents, my P6 son is aiming to go HCI. He loves science. Can I know, in Sec 3, are they allowed to choose any subject combination or they must meet certain requirements before being allowed to choose certain " popular" subject combinations?
Also, is the promotional criteria very tough to achieve? -
At s3, all the boys have to do Phy and Chem. Bio is optional for non special programme (SMTP) boys. If i remember correctly, for this year's sec3, they had to have at least MSG2.5 for sec 2 Science to be able to offer bio as the third sci subject.
The \"default\" Sec 3 subject combination for IP students (excluding the Humanites Prog students, Sci/math talent students, and Language elective students and Structured IP students) are:
1. English language
2. HCL
3. Integrated Maths
4. Chem
5. Physics
6. Integrated Humanites Elective (Geog/Hist/ Lit - choose 1)
7. Integrated Humanities Core (equivalent of Social studies in O levels)
8. Project work component.
9. Bio (optional)
The promotion criteria can be found at: http://www.hci.edu.sg/admissions/high_s ... n-criteria
It may change from batch to batch. Most of the boys do get promoted, so I don't think it is hard to achieve as long as one if fairly diligent and pays attention in class.

Lexis I just heard from ds that there are \"Block Tests\" immediately after June holiday for Sec 4. I wonder if any sec 4 parents are able to verify. If this is so, there goes the June holiday?!
