2017 P1 Registration Exercise for 2018 In-Take

relaxlah1977:
Are here any public primary schools in Singapore which don't overly focus on academic?
All public primary schools in Singapore follow MOE syllabus, for 4 subjects :
English, Maths, Science & Mother Tongue.
All P6 students eventually sit for exactly the same, identical PSLE \"Standard\" or \"Foundation\" papers, 6 years later from Primary 1.
PSLE is our stressful, major exam for all P6 (students + parents), regardless of whichever primary school they come from.
Then, depending on what kind of PSLE results the child achieve in their T-score (up to 2021 only), MOE posting system will post P6ers to various schools : post them to Top Tier 1, Tier 2, ordinary neighbourhood Secondary schools, etc, as long as student's T-score can meet the Sec school's Cut-off-point for Secondary 1 admission.
from 2015 (last year) :
MOE clamp down strictly, forbid appeal, if the P6er student's T-score do not meet the Secondary school's Cut-off-point, for admission.
Hence, the focus have to be academic : regardless of whichever public school the child come from. One can't possibly run away, from academics.
Principals, subject Teachers : all have their own KPIs to meet, and to report back to their boss (MOE), each batch of P6 PSLE performance. -
well said phtthp.
no matter how education minister wants to downplay PSLE, the stress will always be there…whether it’s banded ABC or 123. -

true
no matter how education minister wants to downplay PSLE, the stress will always be there... whether it's banded ABC or 123.
in the new PSLE Banding system (from 2021 onwards) :
even though MOE try to introduce \"Cca / Character of P6 candidates via leadership & whatever talents a child have\" as a 5th subject, however the other 4 subjects (English, Maths, Science, Mother Tongue) still remain to be examined, by SEAB (MOE branch, School of Examination & Assessment Board).
Is not that these 4 subjects are gone, no need to be examined anymore.
amongst these 4 subjects : Maths and Science content at P6, are very heavy going.
Chinese is another very time consuming subject, to learn & to master.
plus new 5th subject Cca, coming in : some more, now required to groom your kid's talent.
isn't it added stress, compared to current T-score system ?
After spending so much time, effort & $ in your child's studies, in grooming their special talent(s) in Cca : the PSLE Band getting wide, means many more P6 candidates going to compete within the same \"Banding bucket\", to enter Top Tier Secondary schools. The new Banding system make it even more competitive, than before.
Why ?
because now can find even more candidates to choose from, within the same bucket,
ie. those at low end of the bucket, plus those at extreme high end of bucket, are all inside the same bucket.
under the new Banding system, some of my friends' in affliated schools worry that the affliation also not going to be as generous, as before.
eg
SCGS / MGS girls can now go back to their affliated Secondary schools, at current T-score 220.
Some of my friends began to worry :
is the new system going to be generous as before, implement something similar or somewhat at least equivalent to \"220 wide margin in the past\", for students keen to go back, study \"O\" level ?
They all want the new affliation (from 2021), to continue remain generous
Or
is the new system going to be stingy, say like only give 5 points affliation beneath the offfical Cut-off point to enter \"O\" level Secondary schools, that kind of situation ?
as of now, nobody know, what's going to happen to affliation, from 2021.
perhaps closer the time towards 2021, those who are in PSG (Parents Support group) : may approach your school Principal or VP, ask them how is the new affliation system, going to turn out ?
eg
minimum : equivalent to how many As plus how many Bs (if any) for Total 5 subjects (including Cca / leadership traits, proven or demonstrated) in the Band, then can go back to affliated Secondary school, for \"O\" level ?
(for the Band : we talk about A, B, C, D, F (fail) grading, no more old T-score mentioned ) -
Hello,
We are currently in the midst of selling our flat and the plan was to move to Pasir Ris (nearer to my in-laws).
We are planning to register my child (born year 2011) at Pasir Ris Primary School. Unfortunately, my application for Parent Volunteer was not successful which mean we have to apply under Phase 2C.
Any recommendation of schools for Pasir Ris area that I should consider? Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you phtthp for your advice. There is school bus but very early... We are now leaning towards Catholic High Primary... will have to see how the property market goes in the next couple of months...
go back to Catholic High primary, got good affliated Secondary school awaiting your son. He can have peace of mind studying there, for next 10 years, from Primary 1 until Sec 4.
The standard of Catholic High, is also academically higher than that of Princess Elizabeth.
since your husband is an alumni (means Phase 2A(1)) :
no need to shift house, whatsoever.
You can call up school now, confirm if school bus go your house.
after checking, if school bus arrive your house at 5.30 am that type of timing (means your son have to wake up at 5 am, to get ready for school), consider drop Catholic High. Reason ?
Your family will find it hard to \"tahan\", wake up everyday for next 6 to 10 years, at 5 am. Then, just enrol him into Princess Elizabeth.
But, if school bus fetch your son around 6.15 or 6.30 am timeframe, then is ok, go back Catholic High.
it makes a world of difference : between waking up 5 am daily, vs. waking up half an hour later to 1 hr later, every day, in the long Term.
But, if after checking, no school bus go your area : then, just enrol him into Princess Elizabeth (Bukit Batok), nearby your house. Unless you or your spouse have car, can transport him to school every morning for the next 6 years, on your way to work, come rain or shine everyday. Or unless you shift nearer to Catholic High. If stay nearer to school, school bus fare also cheaper.
the timing of the school bus, fetching your child : is crucial, over next 6 long years ahead, including transport for CCA days.
for children born 2009 onwards :
CCA become part of the New Psle Banding assessment evaluation criteria

This is also the time, to compare & contrast what CCAs are available in Catholic High, vs. Princess Elizabeth, for your son to choose from. -

Catholic High = Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh

The property market for those area would be either high or very high. -
mead33:
Correction: Attending Cat High Primary doesn't guarantee a place in Cat High Secondary as their cut off points are quite high even for the feeder school.

galaxyraider:
true, doesn't guarantee a place
Correction:

current Cut-off point , for affliated Catholic High Junior (boys), to enter Secondary for GCE \"O\" level, has been set at : 240
240 : is very high
(it is not so easy, to achieve 240 T-score)
for this year 2016 PSLE batch :
only if the student's T-score able to meet 240 & above, then can go back to affliated Catholic High, Secondary. Otherwise if fail to meet Cut-off 240, got to goto other schools.
But from 2021 onwards : the new PSLE Banding system steps in.
from 2021 : no more T-score, so no more 240.
going forward, pondering -
will the new affliation criteria set become easier, or more difficult, from 2021 ?
this batch of 2018 P1-intake children (born in 2011), will be sitting for PSLE 2023. Thus, will be the 3rd batch, to be assessed under the new Banding system.
at this point in time, nobody knows what the new affliation criteria going to be, in order to enter \"O\" level Catholic High Secondary,
since is going to be Total score, over 5 subjects
(including Cca / plus leadership quality demonstrated, etc).
No longer just based on Total of 4 academic subjects.
(english, maths, science, mother tongue)
(changes keep going on) -
