Hi,Can't help but notice the airplane noise every 5 mins or so during the open house. Are the classrooms insulated from the noise? The noise sounds distracting to me.
Is it a long walk from the sch to the nearest mrt station as 158 bus doesn't seem to come that frequently?
also, the P seems very academically focused, over and above everything else like holistic devt, is that true?
How would you compare this school to the one at far west?
Many thanks for your advice.
The classrooms are not soundproof and there are indeed airplane noise during school hours especially nearing national day every year. It is usually better during the start of the year and after national day It may seem distracting but the students and teachers kind of got used to it after that and it affects lessons to little extent. Some teachers may choose to project their voices or wait for the planes to pass.
The walk from mrt to DHS is about 12-15 mins (less than 10 mins if you are faster,20 if you are slower). 158 comes around every 15 minutes and many students prefer to walk to the mrt or to school from the back gate instead.
Yes, there is indeed A lot of focus on academics but the school focus a lot on holistic development too. It does inculcate values and emphasise a lot on character development. It gives students opportunities to participate in various competitions, events, seminars that are non academics related through CCA,VIA, programmes, etc. For example, the open house is organised by the students themselves. The teachers give students opportunities to organise events, participate in events, etc. It stretches the students potential as it is an IP school after all. However, strong emphasis is still placed on academics as students are running a 6 years marathon for the A level in the end.
I am not in the position to compare the school in the West to DHS as I don't understand much about the other school. Maybe other parents can give their opinions on this... -

I want to find out if the child does not cope well in Dunman and is stressed out by the academic-demanding load, does the school specially create 1 "O level" class to cater to pupils who cannot cope IP in this school last year?
-
yes there is an on-demand O level class

for those who can't cope :
Dunman High does open 1 \"O\" level on-demand class, to help those students prepare for GCE \"O\" level, for those who are unable to cope with rigorous IP curriculum. School will identify some impacted students, to take \"O\" level.
after taking \"O\" level :
some proceed to study at other Junior Colleges for \"A\" level or to the polytechnic, while a few returned to Dunman High, continued with \"A\" level.
Is a case-by-case discretionary basis, whether Dunman High want to take the student back or not for \"A\" level, after they had sat for \"O\" level. -
Thank you Imp75 and phtthp for the reply.

For the O level class, students will be identified at the end of Year 2 - streaming.
They will then study for their O levels in Y3 n take their O levels in Y4. -
