Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
Hello I’m new here, actually new to Singapore educational system. We are planning to move back in coming July and my kid is going to register primary one this year. Although MOE is extremly helpful, I also want to retrieve more comments from mommies or daddies here…
Our kids are studying in International School in Hong Kong. We are looking for a primary which is more student-centered style, students play an active and participatory role in their own learning process. I don’t expect too much on academic side at the elementary stage. Is Punggol Cove Primary suitable for my kids? I know it is a new school and The Principle seems open-minded and easy to communicate. Or feel free to advise any another school options and your insight.
Thank you very much. -

Pivotal:
I believe most schools here cater for both normal and high ability students and they will group them accordingly starting from Primary 3. Some schools might focus more on the academic and frankly they are not the ones I want to send my children to. Those schools are usually the top schools, even though not all of them are like that.Hello I'm new here, actually new to Singapore educational system. I can't comment on Punggol Cove Primary. But I think generally the neighborhood schools offer balanced education. You might want to pose your questions in the respective thread for the school you're inquiring on. -
Hi anyone has evaluated North Spring vs North Vista Primary School before ?
Any comment on the above schools ? Thanks ! -
Hi,
Anyone knows if there is an open house for Paya Lebar Methodist before the P1 registration? Have been going to their website to see, but to no avail.
Thought of registering my girl for 2017 P1 intake, but would like to go for their open house first, before deciding.
Any advises? Thank you. -

Not many primary schools have open house, so you will have to check with the school directly.Hi,

Would you choose to enrol to a school that is 200m or < 2km? For the school that is within 2km will be under phase 2A2 while the the latter under phase 2C and is a popular school! Dilemma ... Appreciate your kind comments

ern... Is the 2km school popular also? according to history will it be full during phase 2Cs? If yes, just my opinion... register under phase 2A2 first then keep an eye on the 200m during phase 2C... if until last hour the 200m still no ballet for SC <1km then quickly withdraw from 2km and register the 200m (must ensure very fast action) :siam: .... if 200m highly over subscribe need ballet for SC <1km then just stay at the 2km...
If the 2km not popular and always have vacancies even till phase 3, then you can try ballot at 200m 1st in case failed under 2C then go 2km under 2Cs lor...
If want to have zero stress then just opt for 2km under 2A2... safe all your trouble

If u withdraw from your P2A2 alma mater school and ballot for popular school (200 m from your house) -
In the event if fail at balloting in Phase 2C : means u proceed to Phase 2C supp, and choose those un-popular schools less than 1 km, from your house. Sometimes, in Phase 2C supp, schools located more than 1 km, may also require balloting.
But, if u ballot in Phase 2C supp and fail balloting there, then will join foreigners in Phase 3.
Chances are if fail balloting at Phase 2C Supp, the remaining schools left with vacancies, can be very very far away, from your house, eg : from east travel to west, or vice versa (eg)
So, consider consequences, very carefully
If your kid is SC, you will be given priority to pick a school, before foreigners pour in, when the \"flood\" gate open for Phase 3.
This year, quite a number of schools had cut down vacancies by 1 class. (30 kids)
Not easy for so many foreigners, to enter local schools -
The one within 1km is a popular choice! Didn't know I can give up the choice of 2A2 and go for the phase 2C... Gotta consider the risk and stress level!
