The maid is one of the very few in this world that loves the child so much that she would save the life of her employers' children. Most of the while, helpers actually torture their child. While a maid sacrificing her life for that of her empoyers child is indeed rare. That is also, I hope, the need for that is also very far and few in between.


But to say that most maids will torture the employers’ kids is also not right. These maids make up a small percentage of all the maids working here in Singapore.

The reason why we get the impression that a lot of such things are happening is because of the media. Just like how it seems that a lot of employers are torturing their maids. When in truth, they make up only a very small % of all maid employers.

The new paper reported that her employers did not inform the maid's family of her accident or death - 3 days later. The agent of the maid is trying to raise $10,000 for the deceased's family.


I felt so sad for her family which lost a daughter and a bread-winner.

It's interesting how different newspapers report vastly different facts. Per wanbao, her employers gave $10K to her mother. The agent (should be Indonesian side) drove car for 10 hours to personally inform the maid's death to her family. I suppose that's the cause of the delay in informing the maid's family.

I also get very confused by the differing reports. Anyway, TNP reported that the employers didn't call the family cos they cannot speak Bahasa. How to break this news if language is a problem?

This kind of news is very sad - whether it be maid, or family who died saving the child. I think what’s really important is to ensure that we all remain alert even when crossing the roads or just walking down the pavement. It may not even be our own fault, but we have no control over what is happening with the other party.


I recall news about family being mowed down on the way to breakfast (they were walking on a pavement) and it happened becos the driver bent down to pick up some dropped keys (and lost control). From this, I always remind myself when driving never to care if anything drop in the car - Safety come first!

Hmm… think at the end of the day, we parents should be responsible for our own kids; especially when we are by their side.
