Thanks very much grapevine! Your advice is very helpful. I will do more homework in onemap:)

ACS Junior would have more chance from history and this year.

But you still need to prepare a backup school as it's high chance that both ACS will go into balloting for SC <1km in Phase 2C.
Many parents actually try to rent a place within 1 km of more than one school. This is in the event that it looks like the school is going to ballot and the odds are not in your favour, you can withdraw and put your kid in a school that is not going to ballot within 1 km or the ballot numbers are in your favour.
For example this year, only 20 places left for 2c for ACSP, but 49 places left for ACSJ. If the numbers applying in 2c are 24 SC within 1 km for ACSP and 53 SC within 1km for ACSJ, ACSJ odds are in your favour. More places translate to more chances to have your name picked during ballot.
If you have a place within 1km of SJI and ACSP And ACSJ, and are able to get in SJI without ballot, may be best to apply to SJI.
If you are one of the four unlucky parents who get balloted out in 2C. You are left with very poor options for 2C supplementary. You can't try for alumni or other phases at this stage and you can't change your address at the last minute (MOE states you have to have your address from 30 JUNE). And if balloted out in 2C supp, you don't get to choose anymore. MOE will pick a school for you. :imdrowning:

So it comes down to - Do you want to take the risk? Even if the ballot is for 1 person, you may be the unlucky one. And if you don't have other schools to choose within 1km, it is a nerve-wracking gamble. :xedfingers:

Plus there are properties within 1km of all 3 schools if you look in onemap. Also lots of overlap between ACSP and ACSJ. It's best to keep your options open and avoid balloting or pick a school with odds in your favour.
Hi, I understand ACSP has the GEP while ACSJ does not have.

Another personal reason is because my husband studied in ACS Secondary (Barker road) last time.
May I know, what do you mean by preparing a backup school?

My son will register for P1 in 2017 for 2018 intake. He is SC. We will move into a place which is within 1km from ACSP, because between ACSP and ACSJ, we prefer ACSP.

Hi, may I know why you prefer ACSP? I did some research in the past and couldn't find much difference other than ACSJ is comparatively newer. Apart from that the syllabus and style are the same, so I heard.
Even though your husband was from ACS (Barker), your son doesn't have priority as he can only register under Phase 2C. Looking at the current situation, most likely there will only be 20 seats left on that phase and the balloting will be intense.

That's the reason why I asked you to prepare a backup school. If you get a place within 1 km to both ACSP and SJIJ, you can still run to SJIJ at the last minute if you want to escape balloting. Of course there's always a possibility that SJIJ also requires balloting, but historically <1km are quite safe.

Hi thanks very much for the information. Yes, we can only go under 2C.

I understand that there are 40 seats for 2B and 2C. Does it mean 20 for 2B and 20 for 2C, or it does not have a fixed number allocated to 2B and 2C?

I just start checking out on properties located within 1KM from both ACSP and ACSJ now, such as Amaryllis Ville, Gloucester Mansions, Sarkies Gardens, etc.

Hhalf of the remaining places in Phase 2A(2) will be allocated to Phase 2B. The other half goes to Phase 2C. So yes - if there are 40 seats left after Phase 2A, 20 for 2B and 20 for 2C

Oh dear my boy will going for registration next year for 2018 intake. My husband is ex Acsp but not alumni and we’re living >2km away. If we fail in getting him a placement in phase 2A2 next year will we still qualify for phase 2b and 2c. I really have no idea how this system works as we’ve been living abroad for many years.

Jocose75, I think you can participate in Phase 2B and Phase 2C. But chances are slim if you are living more than 2 km away. So you should have a back up option.

Don’t despair, this year could just be a blip for 2A2. 2014 and 2015 was quite OK.

Good luck to you and your husband from a fellow old boy in any case.

Based on historical balloting trend, ACSP is likely to conduct balloting for Phase 2B and Phase 2C for those SC children living within 1 km of school.

This year, for the first time, balloting is also conducted at Phase 2(A)2 for those SC children staying outside 2 km of the school. Hopefully no balloting is needed for next year at this phase and your boy will be able to get in.

To familiarize yourself with the P1 Registration Exercise, it would be best to check the MOE webpage for the most accurate and up-to-date information. 😄

Your husband should just join the alumni so that you can register in Phase 2A(1). Not sure whether there's a minimum years of membership before you are qualified as I'm not an alumni member.

I think need to join by June of the previous year so it’s too late for Jocose75’s hubby to join.

Hi Jocose 75. If you are keen, you should move within 1km and try under 2A2 next year. The balloting in 2A2 this year was only for those more than 2km. 2B and 2C are quite risky even if you live within 1km. Only down side is that you will need to retain your address for 30 months or until your kid goes to Pri 3. If you don’t mind renting/buying and have the financial resources, you should try for 2A2.
