If you don't mind, could you share whether you deliberately move to be within 1KM of ACSP and ACSJ so that you can have a higher chance to register your sons in one of the 2 schools?
And if you did, why, given substantial effort and cost?
No offense intended in any way - I'm just curious what you find attractive about the schools, objectively. If you are not comfortable to share, just ignore me
(I'm not objective because I'm an old boy and everyone I know who sent their sons there are either old boys or related to old boys so they are not particularly objective either
)

Hi Grimm, for our case, yes, we deliberately make effort to move to be within 1km of both ACSP and ACSJ. The goal is that our son is able to get in ACSP or ACSJ in 2017 registration.
The reason for us is that my hubby is an ACS old boy. However, his primary school was ACS Ipoh, and therefore we can’t qualify for phase 2A. My hubby came to study at ACS Secondary in Singapore after his primary school education in Ipoh. Furthermore, my hubby’s father and grandfather were also ACS old boys (in Ipoh). Therefore, when we consider which primary school we would like our son to be in, ACS is definitely a clear answer. Haha, we are not objective as well:)

Yes. I am registering under 2B next year as well.
Take note that for this year's Phase 2B, ACSP has balloting for <1km this year, while ACSJ has balloting for >2km. -
After looking at the current Phase 2C vacancy now per Chief (ACSJ 49 and ACSP 20), getting really worried for my boy on how Phase2C will turn up for SC < 1km. At least 20+ people i know in the same situation as me - SC < 1km applying for ACS J or P under Phase 2C. Omg…
Can i ask if there are any other good schools around newton/novena area that I can consider? I heard SJI is good but also the current vacancy quite bad - only 58 (shortfall of -27 based on the take-up number of 83 last year under Phase 2C). Any other schools to recommend? Thanks and very much appreciated. -

SJI went for balloting only between 1-2km, so if you are within 1 km your chance may be good if it follows last year's trend. Bukit Timah primary is a good school, based on feedback from parents who have kids there (based on academic results). But if you are within 1km of ACS schools, you are probably more than 2 km from this school. It traditionally has a few vacancies in 2C supplementary but these places are limited and you may not get a place in 2C supplementary if you try in that phase and then you will have to go to phase 3 (includes foreigners) if you are unsuccessful.
The other options are Balestier hill Primary and Farrer park primary. These schools don't fill up even in 2C supplementary. Can't say about their standards but if you are looking at ACS and SJI, they are definitely not in the same range in popularity or academically. But then every school can be a good school. It all depends on how your child performs in PSLE that matters.
Looking at the numbers in both ACS primary and junior, looks like both schools will go for ballot in 2C for less than 1km . If you want a semi safe choice, consider Bukit Timah primary in 2C if the chances of ballot are high in ASCP/J and SJI. Your choices are very limited in 2C supplementary if you have an address in this area because you will be more than 2km from all other school( apart from those mentioned above) and the chances of securing a semi-good school in 2C are very slim. -
