Good morning to all parents 前辈 ,

My boy asked me \"How to take O levels?\".
Daddy said, \"Only if the school need you to take lo.\".
He then asked again \"Do you think anyone will take O levels as a private candidate? Is it better to try as private candidate, even if in IP programme?\"
Daddy \" 🤷 :? .. say check with Consultants \"

Daddy here needs 前辈 guidance if anyone does that or wishes to do that too.
Or does the sch encourages it? Or may be the curriculum simply does not have time for it. Thanks.

As an IP student, I don't think you are allowed to register as a private candidate to take 'O' levels.
Unless the child is weak academically and the school has put him into a class to take 'O' level, the student will then be able to register thru the school.

They can't take O levels under SEAB, but they can take the iGCSE (under British Council, I think?) as a private candidate. I don't think most IP students have the time to cope with iGCSE as well as the regular IP workload unless they just want to take 1 particular subject.

at that point of registration, as a private candidate :
they will verify with SEAB / MOE record, to check : what is the current status, of this Secondary school student, trying to register for \"O\" level exam ?

if the computer flag out error or Alert message : that your kid is currently an \"IP\" student studying
either in an IP Secondary school, or in a Dual-Track O level school (that can also offer IP) -
the system will alert the Registration Officer, & the registration fail on the spot, stop & prevent you from registering as a private candidate, to sit for GCE \"O\" level subjects.

Not sure what has changed since 2012, but according to this blog, IP kids can't do O levels but they can take iGCSE http://khooky.blogspot.in/2012/05/some-ip-students-taking-o-levels-as.html
The IGCSE is offered by several exam boards in England. One of them is Cambridge International Examinations, which said that, since 2008, more than 16,000 candidates from Singapore, mostly from the international schools, have sat the exam.
....
Students in government, government-aided or independent schools are barred from registering as private candidates for the GCE O levels taken by Secondary 4 and 5 non-IP students. This is why IP students end up taking the IGCSE.
