      grimm:
With regards phase 2A1 and phase 2A2, It's not really a 2nd bite of the cherry if in Phase 2A1, all the vacancies are wiped out there is nothing left for Phase 2A2. This is unlike Phase 2B and Phase 2C where there are always vacancies for both phases so you can get a \"2nd bite\" of cherry if you are a PV etc so you qualify for 2B and you get a shot again at Phase 2C (because everyone gets a shot at Phase 2C based on distance)

Hmm... I don't really know how to put it so as not to sound like a broken record. So I got this from the MOE website.

\"The Registration Exercise is divided into 7 distinct phases: Phase 1, Phase 2A(1), Phase 2A(2), Phase 2B, Phase 2C, Phase 2C(Supplementary), Phase 3.

The intent of the Phases is to assign priority to students who are already affiliated to the schools in some way because of their parents or siblings.

The Phases are mutually exclusive and sequential - there are no overlaps. This means that while parents can participate in 1 or more of the Phases.\"

So for everyone to understand clearly - Phase 2A1 is for children whose parents are alumni association members - 1st bite of cherry. If they live near the school, they can also try in Phase 2C for their 2nd bite of cherry :scratchhead:

Usually the last scenario is unlikely as they would have secured their place in the 2A phases (maybe 95%). For this year hot school Henry Park Primary in 2A1 has 102 and 2A2 has 20 (122 places 41% of cohort) is definitely much more than 40 places (13% of cohort) reserved for 2B and 2C. In these 2 phases are ultimately where most of the Singaporeans and then PRs can have a chance to choose their school for their children :siao:

It just doesn't seems fair to have this vastly disproportional distribution of places in our Primary schools to a certain 'privileged' group. I think it's a right way forward that the MOE are implementing measures to limit the access to Phase 2B only for those who have truly contributed. And for Phase 2As, the MOE should set similar criteria to qualify the privilege to deserving alumni only and set aside a number for Phase 2As places to protect the interest of the alumni.

Haha... this is much easier said than done. Maybe must participate more dialogue and feedback sessions to understand more about the underlying issues and history :?

So for everyone to understand clearly - Phase 2A1 is for children whose parents are alumni association members - 1st bite of cherry. If unsuccessful, the parents (also ex-students) can also register their child in the next stage, Phase 2A2. Therefore, 2nd bite of cherry. If they live near the school, they can also try in Phase 2C for their 3rd bite of cherry :scratchhead:

Slight correction. If you're unsuccessful in Phase 2A(1), I don't think you can even get a chance to go for Phase 2A(2) as the vacancy for the whole Phase 2A would've been taken up. It means, they will skip Phase 2A(2) and go straight to Phase 2B the following week.

Oops… u are correct. Thks pointing out this context.

Brain not really functioning at this hours. Now I see what Bro Grimm is talking about "nothing left for Phase 2A2".

Thks grimm and galaxyraider for helping me clarify my misunderstanding. This stuff is hard to digest :imconstipated:

I'm new to the scene of the P1 registration exercise, which is growing more complex with new schemes intertwine with legacy policies. Now I understand  why MOE try to simplify for folks :imdrowning: like me using the balloting tie-breaker for Sec sch selection :stupid:

The secondary school posting is a different ball game altogether. I prefer the current T-score system as it's more \"fair\". The new system is much worse and much more stressful, but I won't discuss it here as there's another thread for that.

Actually the scheme has been quite stable for a while now but it's just that a lot of us only bother to find out when our turn is next (like me).

If the schemes are complex, it is partially to cater to varied stakeholders
                  - Alumni
                  - Church / Temple
                  - Clan
                  - RC
                  - People who live nearby

But the bigger problem is the belief that one has to get into XXX school when a lot of times not actually knowing what the school is all about. Hence all the angst and unhappiness when they can't get in. Anyway, that's self-inflicted so no one can help you. (I saw it as far back as 25 years ago when classmates were upset because they couldn't go to XX JC...sigh)

                    Hi,

I read that we have to join on 30 June if we want to try for 2b.

If i want to join as volunteers now and try to be EM for my son’s school enrollment will it be too late? My son is born on 2012… and wil probably be under the 2018.

not sure to join or not.

                    thanks

From what I have read around here, it likely too late as apparently there is a 2-year service requirement and you will not start as an EM straight away but rather as an observer.

There were a couple of posts back in mid July on this thread where a forum member with 21-months of service was rejected by PA

PA now is very strict on the 2 years requirement, as they cannot be seen as bending the rules. Furthermore adviser need to endorse so they also don’t want the public to question why there are double standards.

Maybe can try PV or other schemes?
