3 weeks is way too short if she's the only one using. Current maid was the same - less than 3 weeks for a tube of toothpaste and about the same for shampoo. Pls note that DH and I use the same type and size, and we take about 1.5 months or more to finish the toothpaste (2 persons hor, and we also brush twice a day).

When she first came, we provided, but after seeing how she used, we told her to get her own. Since then her toothpaste/shampoo miraculously lasts much longer.

Yes I do agree 3 weeks is way too short let them pay themselves then they will know how the money flies ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks, all of you for sharing. U are right, sometimes i can't understand how she finishes so fast. So i shall just ask her to start getting her own. ๐Ÿ™‚ saves me a lot of frustration also!

Put it this way, when she uses her own money, you wouldn't care if she uses it up in one day. I'm putting my money on her suddenly using her supplies up very very slowly going forward. ๐Ÿ˜›

Well said!!! If it is their own $$$, they could decide how to use them, just like how we would want to decide how to spend ours (on them). Honestly, if they are reasonable, we would not mind blessing them with these right? It is when they start to take the blessings for granted, that is what puts me off and withdraw!!!

I think we're all in agreement. In my case, I told her to use her own money so she can choose a brand of her liking. No point I pay for it and select something she may not like.

Similarly, I tell my mum not to concern herself with how fast her phone card finishes. It's her money and she can decide if she want to spend all her salary buying phone cards.

Agreed. When she's spending OPM (other people's money), she doesn't care about it. Like when my maid goes grocery shopping, she doesn't look at the price. Once I ask her how much an item is, she said \"don't know\". I asked her if she knew this item was twice more expensive here than the other store. She was like \"oh\". Totally clueless. Of course, can't blame them as they're not spending their own $$ :stupid:

AND. When she was first here, I told her to call back home (using my hp). Wahhh, that fella buey paiseh, talk and talk....like cannot end. Learnt my lesson - buy phone card.

First phone card I paid, she finished in one sitting (dunno how she called - it was when we weren't around). After that, we told her to get her own phone cards.

This kind cannot sustain :moneyflies: .
For sure they need to buy their own phone cards! When it comes to free things, human nature is likely to take advantage of them. Phone cards result in self control ๐Ÿ˜‰

                      hi Fett,

I think it is by stroke of luck that you get a good maidโ€ฆeg if by nature, they have good family upbringing & are more demure by nature (kampong girl), then they can obey you better, if those that are more qualified & ve initiative tends to ve their own mindset & may get annoyed or show you a nasty look if you asked them to follow certain house rules of yours. i.e. separate face towel vs bath towel.

My maid has been with me for 5 years (my kids are now 10 and 8 now) , sheis from Lampung, Indonesia so you may want to try your luck with one from there. She is a little slow and needs constant reminder at certain task but she nevers eat our bread, my kids chocolates, etc w/o our permission, if we forgotten to tell her to go ahead, she will just let it turn bad, I see this as a respect for us as her employer, but of course, nowadays I told her to eat whatever that is near expiry.

Love and kind consideration goes a long wayโ€ฆ new maid are very homesick, let them call once a fortnight, write letter & treat her like she is your 3rd kid, with lots of patience.
