      daughter told me yesterday she has LC prelim today...I told her I am aware. the teachers are giving them a lot of stress for the prelims...told her the important one is PSLE, for prelims just take it easy.

      the REAL thing is next month... crazy to stress the students out at this point.
      I recommend to my students to take the Prelims very seriously for two reasons:

      1. If they do well, it will boost their confidence enormously and they will coast to and through the PSLE. Conversely, if they perform poorly then their confidence might take a hit;

      2. Most importantly, if for some reason they are not able to sit the PSLE itself or sit it under constrained circumstances, then MOE can use the Prelims results. This, for example, actually occurred a few years ago when several students - from Montfort Junior if I remember correctly - suffered food poisoning from the school canteen and had to be hospitalised during the PSLE.

        After having 2 experiences (DS1 and myself) of doing better in prelims than in PSLE, do remember to try and help DCs peak at the right time too...though I am not sure how that's done!

            Was stressed out from work yesterday, and DS was acting up a bit , arguing and justifying as we practised MT orals. Lost my temper and made a caustic remark. :sad: Tossed and turned the whole night as I brooded over it , nasty headache now but important work to complete. :frustrated:

            Got a lecture from my dad and DH.
            Sigh, it has been a emotional roller coaster week for me, someways the stress is getting to me, must relax and chill this week end.

              Sun. I too have been uptight about DD1 MT oral. Such that sometimes I find myself becoming difficult with her and then feeling bad afterwards. I have been telling myself to take a step back and pace myself, but at that spur of the moment it still gets the better of me. Have to keep trying.

                    DD didn't do well for her Chinese prelim... The lowest in class she said 🤷

                    My DS compo went out of point... sigh... I guess at this stage, we can only encourage them... cant rush any last mins bugging to stress them out.

                    That's my fear too.. Writing out of the theme. My younger one is very prone to that.

                        Sun and ImMeeMee I think MTL, especially Oral, is just so challenging that it gets all us parents going! We are only human so don't be so hard on yourselves. I always cut myself some slack! It has been a tough couple of weeks what with Prelims, the thought of upcoming PSLE Oral exams and for many, DSA interviews to contend with.

                        If we feel this way just imagine how the DCs feel. It's a lot of pressure for 11-12 year olds. Let's be kind to both ourselves and our DCs.
