      Good evening all,

My baby girl just entered P1 this year. We stay in woodlands and drive her to school everyday.
If anyone who resides in woodlands wishes to hitch a morning ride, drop me a note to coordinate.

        Hi,

My daughter currently in P2 in St. Margaret. I would like her to take some competitive exams for Science and Maths. Any exams to recommend for Science & Maths ?. How to apply for them ? Thru’ school or external ?

          Hi bsk,

What exactly do you mean by ‘competitive exams’? I think for p2, the only school exam is SA2, which is coming up in the fourth term. The teachers will most likely be practising with the kids, you can ask your girl’s form teacher about it.

Otherwise, you can look for assessment books that have mock papers, or download past exam papers.

The only external I can think of are tuition centres that may set mock papers for their students.

I’m assuming that you just want your daughter to experience what exams are like? If so, you can try and simulate an exam session at home.

            Hi,

            Thanks for ur reply
I mean exams like olympiad etc., which are outside the routine SA1, SA2 exams. ie. can get her to attend that from P3 onwards…

SMPS does participate in maths olympiad. Students who are good in the subject are put in a special group and they stay back after school to train for it. I can’t remember if this is in p3 or in p4. This is optional. My DD was selected but she found it too stressful so stopped attending after a few sessions. I don’t know about science.

Thank you to all parents who had posted here who had helped us to select St. Margaret's Primary School for our girls! Looking forward to a fun school life for my girl/s... 🙂

                    Thru' school or external ?
for lower primary (P1 to P3)
you may enrol your daughter for Australia ICAS (English, Maths, Science) tests.

Every year, every batch, at a specific time of the year, ICAS conduct such tests.
If not sure, do approach your daughter's individual subject Teachers, or School General Office admin, for more info, like what time of the year does the school conduct such tests, & how much to pay for the tests ?

                    for Upper primary
your daughter's Maths subject Teacher will hand-pick certain selected students from her entire class level , & train these selected girls in Maths Olympaid.

You may approach her Maths Teacher, ask her what kind of criteria, is the school (St Margaret primary) looking for, during selection of such candidates.

                    For Science Olympaid :
only some primary schools very strong in Science, will participate, & apply to Upper primary level students only. Not to lower primary level. Science start from Primary 3, onwards.
Not all primary schools however, participate in Science Olympaid.

You may approach your school's Science HOD, find out from her if St Margaret primary participate in Science Olympaid, or not.

If her Answer is Yes, may consult her what kind of criteria, is school looking for, during selection / hand pick of such Science candidates.

Hello, I am staying within 1km of SMPS and would probably send my daughter there.

I’m just wondering, for a relatively well known school with an illustrious history, why is this school not very popular in terms of P1 registration? Is there something I’m missing out?
