Do they need to learn how to operate powerpoint in primary levels? I mean during term time. Some do not know how to google for information regarding social studies project. Research, compile, collate, organise into presentation with pictures etc etc. takes up substantial time. This can be done after exams, for enrichment purposes. Just like home economics, photography were carried out during PE time after exams.

看开点. Bear with the education system. Complain also no use. The only consolation is you are not alone. That’s why parents spend $1000 per child per month on tuition. Those who have house & car loans unpaid, ever increasing utilities bills & transport costs, they know 2 is enough. Very pragmatic. Low birth rate, brain drain are the consequences we are seeing now.

          Busymom:

\"My guess of what \"teach less\" means, is to be less reliant on text-books and less spoon-feeding. However, the students have to learn more through other methods: practical, role-play, project work, etc., in school.\"
I agree with busymom. it's the teaching method.

personally, i feel learning and teaching must start frm home when a child is born.when a child is well disciplined, he/she will be able to learn on their own with minimum coaching.

of course, school is the proper place for learning but we as parents must also be responsible to guide our children at home. how much can we guide? it's very subjective. it's depend on what we want our children to be.
If you are very kiasu, then you guide more.

I do agree that it's very tiring to spend time after works with our children and we have to sacrifice a lot of our hobbies, movies etc.

But I feel that when we coaching our children, it will make our relationship getting closer, less generation gapping and we will know more about them, so do they.

My DD teacher assigns the class in individual or group to work on some Science examination topics (P3 & P4) and they have to present in PowerPoint to the class. Therefore my DD has to do some revision and research in order to present the topics.

Aiyo, I didn't know having children so siong one..... 😢
I see my peers (I hv kid later than them) everyday fly here, fly there, not in town. Golf here, golf there. Their kids like automatic, all HCI, ACS(IB), RI. Now, medicine NUS. They also assured me, like father like son, with my qualifications, kids will achieve better than me. 🙏

Turn out, not the case leh.... :? Just wonder if someone took wrongly at KK 😢

School should make students do all research projects everything in school. Bring home, who do? Parents do. :stupid: GEP program has many projects, my colleague took few days off to do! :!:

MOE and teachers don't know they are training the GEP parents .... :celebrate: Not kids... hhahahahaaa

After dinner, wife gave me 20 maths questions. Target to finish by tonight. All questions from kid's school teacher. 😢

Last minute, I have to cancel my evening walk to Popular Bookshop. :x

How many times we have to study PSLE in our lives? 2 or perhaps 3 times? (incl. grand children) 🙏

                Suffering. :x :?:

Think nowadays, kids see teacher more often than parents. Esp, both parents working. I just reach home. Kids sleeping liow. No chance to talk. Wife also sleep liow.

Eg, the chinese lesson on George Washington chopping the tree. If the teacher can use it as a chinese language lesson plus moral studies to teach students on honesty. :celebrate:

I guess most teachers not so on the ball. Go thru vocab, grammar, job close. Can give example on honesty. Discuss about personal experience or Newspaper articles....

Teaching is a sacred calling.... no just another job. 🙏

Teachers can easily spot Lians and Bengs students, send them for Boot Camp or workshops to change them.
And this, at 01.09 on 30th April posted in this thread ...

:udaman: spot on. I see one friend, kid's teacher assign project work....end up parent had to translate the chinese project and type it out until 1am in the morning; and apparently this parent helps out in the research work regularly.

Donkey Kong, I think you can be fairly sure that your woes won't end with primary school. Sec school also the same. FYI, I'll just be starting my re-education next year. 😢 😢
