Why not consider National junior college (Bukit Timah) or River Valley High, both are IP schools, nearer to your home ?

6 years everyday travelling from west to east 2 way, is no joke.

      For a start :
Ask your daughter to try travelling to and fro, from west to Dunman High, for one week trial. At the end of the week, ask her how she feel, as she going to do it for next 6 years

      Don’t forget :
When need to stay back often for Cca days, students are released around evening time, that’s when she will join the peak office evening hours with office workers inside the packed Mrt train / changing bus. The trip home will be very tiring

I used to travel from chua chu kang to mountbattern via public transport, took almost 2 hours. Furthermore, she will need to carry her bag and books. Really, no joke!

Plus, the train station and bus stops ( except bus 158) are not at its doorstep.

There are Bus 10( transfer to 158), Bus 14 (walk), Bus 30… From/to West Coast / Clementi area.

I was an ex-student of DHS. Love the school and would really like my boy to study there. However, due to concern of the LONG travelling time (we are staying in the west), we have decided to let him choose another school much nearer home. No regrets, especially for those days which he finishes CCA around 7pm, he is still able to reach home at about 7.30pm.

thanks all for the overwhelming response.

My girl is DSA thru sports and she hope to excel in her sports in DHS. So, we may have to consider shifting to near her school.

Outside my house got bus 30 - but it’s gonna be a long ride though.

We actually like the culture in DHS too, find that the teachers we met are very caring. Witnessed some incidents too.

              Cheers !

I understand DHS has a hostel for foreign students. Perhaps can appeal for your DD to stay in school?

                  Thanks zbear.

We considered that too but felt that she is too young to stay out. Maybe when she is in year 3 and 4 🙂

                  Cheers !

Sorry. Noob question. Is there anywhere one can find out the no of places allocated for each kind of DSA by DHS? Trying to get a feel of how competitive to try the DSA route…for example, if there are only 3 places allocated for DSA thru Chinese Orchestra or Guzheng, it will be extremely tough unless really outstanding? May be better to focus on other aspects then? Also, if one enters through DSA Performing Arts - let’s say Guzheng, does it mean that that student will have to be committed to a CCA which requires this skill set for the next 6 years in DHS? Confused.

Also, it seems less common or popular for pple to try DSA thru Uniformed Group as this is hardly discussed? I thought it may be an easier way since time commitment for Uniformed Groups in Pri Sch is less? No?

                    Thanks in advance.

this year (2016), or last year (2015) :

how many P6 students offered CO (guzheng) ?

                      after accept CO (guzheng) -
in Secondary 1 to 4 (commitment over next 4 years, not 6 years, after signing on dotted line), every week, how often compulsory need to attend Cca guzheng practice ?
is it twice or 3x per week (each session : duration 2 hrs) ?

                      at Dunman High -
if accept CO, via Sports Cca / Arts Performance Cca :
the commitment level is applicable only for 4 years, not 6 years, unlike Nanyang Girls High / RGS Secondary, which means signing up for full 6 years commitment, all the way in IP programme, until "A" level.

                        WOODLANDS366Kee:
In Year 2016, Is the Class 3L the best? What are the subjects combiinations for the top Students?

                        Please advise
No. Class 3L is actually not the best, but people recognise it as the best as it is the last class alphabetically.
They tend to have a smaller class and have better results but, the other classes are actually equally good.
Class 3L is simply a class which takes triple science and Geog/Hist I believe.

There are options for taking a combination of Double sciences (Chemistry + Physics/Biology) and Double humanities (Two from Geography/History/English Literature/Chinese Literature). Those classes are not any worse, they just decided that they want to take those subjects for Y3 and Y4. There are a lot of the so-called \"cream of crop\" students there too ((should be classes E and F))

No class is \"the best\", all classes have students that are good at certain subjects.
