Child's Position in P1 Class

this obsession with rankings is pure madness... who remembers what you scored in P1? I don't think your next job promotion depends on your P1 scores
It's rather silly. To give so much emphasis on P1 ranking is unhealthy. -
Some people like to have these awards to include in DSA admission for secondary school. Personally, I’m not thinking that far ahead but that is the reason for some people. If you have a string of awards throughout primary school it may (or may not) help.

... What's wrong with you people?
You may disagree with what people do, but there's no need to put others down like that. -

Totally agree - what's important in P1 is that the child gets used to a systematic way of learning and and that she adapts to the school, the environment, teachers and friends. Let children be children.ttt80:

However, report book shows only individual subjects marks, no other cohort whatsoever nonsense percentage.janet_lee88:

will a child position be informed in P1 class?

For my DS' neighbourhood school, it didn't. So wat i did was casually ask the FT during my \"meet the parents session\" with her. I told her i need to monitor and ensure that my child can fit in and is performing ok. -
My boy’s FT did inform them about their class positions.

i think the entire singapore education system is all rubbish

Had that thought when I was a student. But now think it’s harsh and very unfair to those teachers who are really dedicated. Sure, there are black sheep (as there will be elsewhere), politics and overcompetitive parents. At end of day, most schools are places you can feel safe leaving your kids at while you work; knowing they are learning somewhat useful stuff.
