There is no way to avoid memorising as that's the best way to have quick recall. But during the learning process, there can be ways to help the facts stick. I can't remember how my husband helped my daughter when she was having a lot of problems learning the multiplication tables. I'll ask him (and her) and post again later.in a fun way without memorising.

I was flipping through some books at Popular and if I’m not wrong multiplication only taught in P2. Was I mistaken?? My son going to P1 next year. Is there a difference between the textbooks and what they actually learn in school?

yep , multiplication starts in P2, table 2 to 6 & 10 for my child's sch
i think P1 teaches on groupings, grp of 2 , 3, 4, 6 ,8 etc first step to multiplications. -
