      Perhaps can try 明天是猪日

      http://www.govyi.com/book/children/wxtd/wgxs/389029.shtml

The story is comical and hillarious. The wordings are very simple to read, with picture in every page.

The same author writes a few books in this series. You can find them in the library.

Hey,thanks a lot, joconde and brenda10. I will definitely try to hunt for these books and let my boy try. One of the series I had successfully introduced to my boy is the "nao nao" series - not sure whether you have heard of this series. It’s a fat boy who gets into trouble - set in local context. My kids enjoyed them very much. But it’s a bit simple lah…

If your boy is able to read Chinese quite well, you may want to start letting him read 金庸 novels. He has a total of 15 long novels. I haven't read any English novels that are comparable with his novels. Start with 射鵰英雄傳, the main characters are 2 teenagers. Fantastic books ! These are the books that really made me hooked on Chinese. I used to read them until 2am in the morning.

Me too ! Each novel is so long, I used to have \"withdrawal\" symptoms when I finished the last chapter 😉

Another series of books I was on hooked on was the 卫斯理 science fiction series by 倪匡 😉

小淘气尼古拉- translated from the very popular Le petit Nicolas series abt a french schoolboy and his adventures. We love the English version too.

                  Hi joconde, tamarind and mathsparks,

Thank you for your recommendation. 😄

I would look out for all these books. BTW, DD had read the 还珠格格 part 1 - book 2 (水深火热) while watching the VCD during March. Now she is waiting to see the 还珠格格 part 2 after the examination. All these Chinese shows came with only Chinese Sub title and she has no choice but to see the words if she can’t understand sometime what they were saying.

I had a series of 卫斯理 science fiction by 倪匡; she has chosen the book 老猫 for a try. As for 金庸, may start with the 倚天屠龙记(苏有朋主演)since she likes 五阿哥. Then slowly follow by 射鵰英雄傳 shows and their books etc. I hope she can enjoy all these interesting shows/books and her CL standard can be even better than today.

                      Hi Brenda,
IMHO for girls, 亦舒 books are better than 琼瑶 (author of 还珠格格) 😉 Though I also read all of 琼瑶 books, she is a good writer, but her female characters are too weak (dependent on men).

I have read over 200+ books written by 亦舒. I love her style, plain, simple and straightforward. Her female characters are modern, strong and independent. She wrote quite a few novels which are not love stories, suitable for kids in early teens.

I hope all parents teach their kids (10 years and above) to read 金庸 novels, these books are transformational.
