If from The Red North-South Line (North) can consider alight at Toa Payoh and take (105,153 -> 3 bus stops) to reach bus stop outside SJI as mentioned above instead of changing to Downtown line at Newton.
If from the Yellow Circle Line (West) can consider to alight at Botanic Gardens instead of changing to Downtown line there and take (48, 151, 153, 154, 156, 186 -> 3 bus stops)) and alight at Raffles Town Club.
If already on Downtown Line, outside Stevens MRT there is a bus stop where they can take 700, 960 and alight one bus stop later at Raffles Town Club. But I think walking is much faster.
The students would find out for themselves after a while which is the best route. -
Seem like taking bus from Stevens MRT & alight at Raffles Town Club is not really a good option. I agreed that walking could be faster. Just wonder where would be the side small gates the students could enter.

MJ2009:
2i) Yes only need to buy HCL materials, there is no need to buy CL materials if taking HCLHi parents, need some urgent advise here, can help?
2i) My child is in IP program and given the option of taking HCL. Can I confirm that if he were to take HCL, he will not need to take CL lessons and hence I only need to purchase all HCL materials?
2ii)
By taking HCL for the first four years, does that mean he can be exempted from Chinese in year 5 and 6?
Is there a minimum requirement for him to be exempted from Chinese in year 5 & 6?
Does the exemption for year 5 & 6 also apply if he were to just take standard CL during his first 4 years?
2iii) What if he fails the HCL since Sec 1? What will be alternative available for him?
Appreciate your soonest advice and guide as he needs to submit his response by 30 November. He is also interested in taking a 3rd language as well, but I'm concern as he did not take HCL during his primary school years, hence not sure if he can cope with HCL (if it is necessary for him to take) and 3rd language at the same time. Thank you. :thankyou:
2ii&iii) Hope the slides 20-22 at the following website does help answer some of the queries
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByBzUr0GIW9WWWl2aHd4bVlmcTQ/view
Basically due to IB requirements, it is compulsory to offer a group 2 language in Year 5 and 6 whether you have HCL or even if you are exempted from MTL. Perhaps you can start him off with HCL and even 3rd language as well then see how he copes. If cannot manage can probably change to CL and also drop the 3rd language. -

Should be able to adjust back quite easily as the end point would still be the O Level MTL exams at the end of Sec 4. HMTL O Level students would do the O Level MTL exams at the end of Sec 3.Thanks Emoh, appreciate your swift reply and advise. The slides are helpful

Is it common for students to switch from Higher Chinese (HCL) to Express Chinese (CL) in the school? Were they able to adjust back easily? Will the process be straightforward and granted easily?
I think can drop at the end of the year. Found the info to appeal to do HMT but not the info to drop.
http://sec2.sji.edu.sg/weekly-updates/2015-term-4
Appeal for Higher Mother Tongue (HMT) in Sec 2, 2016.
Kindly note that the school will give consideration to students to study Higher Mother Tongue Language in Sec 2 / 3 if they meet the following criteria: (i) at least 75% in MTL for end of year exam; (ii) at least 75% for overall performance in MTL; (iii) an overall performance of at least 70% for all other subjects and (iv) at least a pass in all examinable subjects.
All appeals / applications from one academic level to another must be submitted to Subject Head (Chinese Language) <email: [email protected]>, by Term 4 Week 10 (13 Nov 2015). Please attach photocopies of your Sec 1 TA2 and Final-Year Exam results. Successful applicants must be committed to study HMTL for the entire academic year. -
