My dd is very happy with her result. She exceeded the non-affiliation cut-off for her affiliated IJ school.

My Daughter will be going back to her affiliated secondary IJ. Normal academic.
She was very happy when she saw her name as having 'the most improved results'.
:congrats: -

Hi, my son is offered HMT. He did not take HMT in Pri school and has secured a place in an IB sch. Heard that HMT is not needed for those taking IB. Is it true?
Yes, it's true. My nephew in SJI doing IB is doing normal MT.It's just that there is a smaller group of them. -

Hi! Heard that the cohort result is good, the COP might increase too. May I know if my dd psle aggregate lower 2 marks with the top sch COP, do you think if i can take the risk to put this sch as first choice? The second choice is meet the sch COP. TIA
If your expectation is that the COP will be higher than previous year,
you are basically throwing one choice away since your daughter's T-score
didn't even meet previous year's COP, let alone this year's.
Then again, you have a total of 6 choices. So long as you exercise caution,
and choose one or two schools with COP well below her T-score, then there
is no risk at all. -
hi,
My girl scored 229 for her PSLE, A* for English, A for Science, B for Maths & Chinese. We are staying at Hougang and with no car. May I have some suggestions from kind souls here, what are the secondary schools to be considered for her Sec 1 posting?
** She doesnt want to go to Hougang Sec & YCK Sec
In fact she wanted to go XinMin or Zhonghua, but she didnt do as well as expected, will it be risky to put these 2 school as part of her choice?
Appreciate your advise, thanks so much :thankyou: -

Depends on the school. HMT requirement is for admission to local universities, but for IB students, the HMT requirement can be satisfied by Pass in SL/ HL MTL A or B paper taken at IBDP examination (see: http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/docs/FAQs%20for%20International%20Baccalaureate.pdf)
However, different IB schools do it differently. I think ACSI and SJI do take the MOE HTML paper (or at least the kids have the option to) but for SOTA, they do the IB MTL paper at Year 6 and don't offer the HMT O level paper. IBDP requires a subject from the language group (Group 2?) so those kids who take the HMT paper at year 4 will have to do another language at ab initio level at Year 5-6.
You need to check with the school's MT Dept to get a definitive answer. -

when she brought back her prelim results (124), i was really in the dumps.
i burst into tears when she showed me her psle results but daughter thought i was disappointed. hubby explained to her that we are actually very happy she made such a big improvement. -

It's usually not that difficult to meet the promotion criteria if they have been going about their daily work diligently.slmkhoo:
Hi, does anyone know if there is a 'O' level class in RGS? If the child is not able to perform after Y1 or Y2, will she get kicked out if the school. Please advise. Thank you!
There is no 'O' level class. \"Not perform\" has to be very bad (bottom couple of the cohort) before the student is advised to transfer out. Before selecting the school, ask yourself if the student is above average, eager to learn, an independent learner (or willing to be one), highly motivated, high energy levels etc. If not, a nother school may be a better fit.
Seriously, if a kid can't attain an average of B3 (equivalent of about L1R5 of abt 20) for lower sec, the risk of doing badly for A level is rather high. It would be good to look elsewhere.
Thanks everyone for the input. It helps ease my mind for my DD to apply RGS.
