I think many people want to go for holidays in the last 2 weeks of the year, so the announcement of posting results in late December will leave them with only 2-3 days of going to the school, buying books and uniforms, etc, before they go for their holidays. And if they want to appeal, that will take even longer.

Not so much about prep… just that the S1 release date is neither here or there. Cannot take a longer overseas vacation in 2nd half of Dec.

Will let son chill till end of the year. Just give him some mental preparation & maybe get some humanities related reading material from library. Otherwise, think he deserve some break after meeting his target in PSLE & start everything anew in when sec 1 starts. That’s when the madness begins all over again.

I really dun understand what's the fuss about... Wasn't the timeline like that when you were in P6? Did you guys have enough time to prepare for S1?
          :?

          I get it!!
Last time read one year in advance...now at least 2 years! 😆

          Don't be silly.

Nevermind the school. They have to start studying for the Os NOW! 4 year head start should put them in good stead.

Having gone through it with DD last year, I do feel that it is a bit of a rush.

For us it was because DD is not of standard size 😆 had to alter her uniforms or she will look really sloppy.

I have always wondered why MOE takes more than a month to publish the Sec 1 posting results. Any computer can churn out the results in an instant......

You must understand that computers must still wait for humans to mull over and type in their choices. And there could be exceptions in the processing that may require human intervention. Unfortunately, humans don't work nearly as fast as computers can.

it's just like why psle results take 1 month to be released after the 4 days of psle marking.
wtih 37000 kids applying for sec schools and all the decimal points involved, it can't be that simple. i know i am contradicting myself, but i personally hope the s1 posting result can be released earlier so that we can quickly get the books/uniforms and enjoy ourselves before a hectic year begins.

because MOE doesn't just process your child's application, only, from the moment a child receives his / her PSLE results slip, until receiving announcement news of Secondary school posting.

there are thousands of P6 students and parents out here : who need time to figure out & to consider carefully what their 6 choices of Sec schools are going to be, since is going to impact them, for the next 4 or 6 long years ahead of them.

you can see how many parents been posing qns in this forum, asking feedback about this Sec school, or that school. Many parents not sure which schools to choose. All these, definitely need time to go through one by one, carefully

floppy: study in advance for O levels only if you've a confirmed place in IP school. I heard some IP schools will finish certain O level syllabi by end of Yr 2 or 3?

But year after year the holiday windows remain by and large the same. Either you fly out:
                    1. After PSLE (if no other DC in pri sch) or last week of SA2, back before result on mid- Nov; or
                    2. Book end-Nov till mid-Dec; or
                    3. Book Christmas Eve till end-Dec.

Anyway, it's more expensive to travel in the 2nd half of Dec, not to mention it'll be brrrrrrr....colder. Of course, I understand some working parents can only take long leave in late Dec.

Give the child a well deserved break, and then start the new year, the new school, the new environment, the new friends on a fresh note.

No need to study during this holiday. There will be time when the new year starts.

Last year, I let my ds had a relaxing holiday doing all the things that he liked. It was completely stress-free.
Then when school reopened in Jan this year, my ds, having had a great time, put in all his heart & soul into the studies & did fairly well.

My ds says he has classmates who went for Sec 1 preparatory classes during the year end holiday. Some of their parents also set limits to their playtime & TV time. So when term starts, they did not feel that they had relaxed or played enough, and they became not so hardworking, letting play interspersed with their studying, in order to compensate for what they were deprived of, and hence didn't do so well. There are also some who felt that since they went for preparatory classes, they are already \"prepared\" and hence didn't pay attention in class. And also didn't do so well.

Pleeeeeese, let your Dear Child get his/her well deserved break.
They may not have anymore such breaks in future.
After O or A level, there may be other activities & commitments.

Teachers and P need to go for their deserving holidays too

Fr what I know teachers had so called "protected" holiday period eg last week of Nov till last week Of Dec then all educators to come back to sch for meetings, for sec 1 orientation etc etc - this may explains the late posting result too - no staff to run the show wat…
really a challenge for some parents who can only take leave fr last 2 weeks of dec - certain industry are affected eg some manufacturing related - factory sort of "shut down" in yr end festive
