Oh My Gosh:
Thanks parents for the comments... In your honest opinion, should I then refund the textbooks back to Popular as it seems that they will not be used by the School/ teachers (hence read: i.e. students themselves)??
Hahaha, of course not. The teachers do use the Math textbooks from time to time for assignments. For the Sc textbooks, these are used from Sec 1-4

Oh My Gosh:
Dear Oh My Gosh,lexis:
Those books can be used all the way till Year 4 (same book appears in Sec 4 booklist).
Phew! Do you know which topics of Physics/ Chemistry is covered in Sec 1/2?
DS is weaker in Science and he wants to read through the textbook before school reopens.
But I am worried he end up hating Physics/ Chemistry more if he is to bury into all the Chapters. Haha...
Chemistry topics covered in HCI Sec 1 are [based on my best knowledge]
- Kinetic Particle Theory
- Classification of Matter
- Elements, Mixtures and Compounds
- Solutions and Suspensions
- Separation Techniques
Chemistry topics covered in HCI Sec 2 are [based on my best knowledge]:
- The Periodic Table
- Atomic Structure
- Chemical Bonding (Ionic and Covalent Only)
- Writing Chemical Formula and Balancing Chemical Equations
- Acids and Bases
These are generally the chemistry topics that will be covered in Lower Sec Science for IP schools. Some of these topics are part of Chemistry syllabus (eg. Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, Acids and Bases) in Sec 3 and 4.but with wider scope and greater depth.
Hope the above information is useful. -
Does anyone know the HCI Academic Year 2017 calendar?
Does it follow the MOE Secondary School academic calendar? -
They usually start one week later than other MOE schools, but I was told 2017 is the last time they will be doing this. But for sec 1s, you guys may start earlier than the other levels because of orientation.
Term 1, 2, 3 follow MOE school terms, so do the March/ June / Sept school hols. I think for the past 3 years, HCI usually ends a week later than other IP schools in Oct/Nov, because they start 1 week later. -

Asking on behalf of my DS’s friend who is also going HCI. Her hubby won Harvey Norman vouchers at his company year end Dinner and Dance. They are planning to use/ top up to buy a laptop for their DS.
(1) Does HCI have a promotional purchase of laptop during roadshow such that it is better to buy then?
(2) Does HCI have a preferred brand of laptop? I heard some schools preferred Lenova, others MacBook? -
As far as I know, there is no ‘great deals’ or special promotional prices and specific brands to go for. However, I remember there is only specifications such that the student does not buy too low spec products. There is briefing on laptop spec sometime in Term 1. Your friend may want to wait for that. There is no rush in buying a laptop for Y1 kid.

Any idea how long will the reporting day on 22 Dec take? Will 1/2 day leave be enough?

It depends. If uniform and textbooks already settled, 1/2 should be enough. -

Normally HCI's reporting day is to collect important notices (such as when school starts, third language things etc.) and to buy books and uniform, a lot of families are usually done by 10 latest 11am
