fr p4 to p5 .. results dropped
-
StillThinking:
Erm, the marks for each grade will change in p5, the same grade should be where one is suppose to be, lower is definitely a drop.
for Maths : from P4 to P5, usually what are some reasons behind, that caused the drop ? -
my child did not recover fr sa1, except somehow after changing tution centre, he did better for mother tongue. he did much worse for math and sci. his reasons were, it was difficult.

fr sa1 to sa2:
eng, from 67.3 to 67.5
mother tongue, from 58 to 74.8
math, from 89 to 63
sci, from 87 to 70.5
how should i help him? -

If you look at his CLresults, with appropriate help, his results can be improved substantially.
For Maths and Sc, you can help him by identifying which areas he could be having difficulties with. When my dd1 was identified to be weaker in fraction, we did a lot more on fraction.
Btw, did he manage to complete the paper? If not, then he may need to learn to better manage his time in order to answer the questions correct and fast.
For Sc, there are more applications-type of questions as compared to lower primary now so concept must be clearly understood in order to apply the correct scientific principles. -
If the foundation is not strong, this holiday is the time to reinforce.
P5 syllabus is preparation of what to expect in p6.
yl, i sent you a PM, but itโs still in my inbox. Thanks for all the help. -
Janet, I think there's something wrong with the PM. Please don't mention it. :hugs:

Is this very common in P5? Is it true that results will improve in SA2? I am quite worried as the drop is v drastic for my childโs case. Science maintained but big drop in languages n Maths.

Personally, I feel that it is very common. My dd's results drop by at least 20 marks from p4 to p5 (from 80+ to about 60). Give me a big shock in my life. I remember it is because the expectation in students is higher and the papers are tougher (e.g. more problem sums in Math, more comprehension qns in English, harder to score for compo etc etc). Another reason may be my dd had been very chillax and couldnt adapt in time. That's when i hire a tutor for her and thankfully, the results were showing improvement then. -

Tnks for the reply mummyxoxo. Given that his school is now less supportive and really doing the minimum in terms of additional academic support, I already somehow mentally prepared for this kind of drop. However, did not expect to be so drastic. His HCL compo is only 5/40 and was told many students from top classes failed very badly too, single digit kind of marks. At the same time, I also do not wish to over-react by changing tuition centers or adding more tuitions etc.I really hope he will progress over the next few months.
