Alright, to me, VJ was quite successful back then in the 80s and 90s, we even beat RJ in the A level results and was crowned as the top JC then. That was because of the strong culture that VJ has in which the seniors had programmes with the juniors. I still remembered the times I had with my seniors, some of them are really successful now and I do stay in contact with them till date. .
I remembered VJC was top JC for only 1 year. Subsequently, it had never been top again. In fact nowadays, its performance has never been comparable or even close to the top 2 JCs RI/HCI.

Can you give some insight into this since you were so confident that the school culture, support e.t.c would ensure that a JC can sustain it's performance?

Just curious, when VJC was top that year, was the VJC principal the woman that came from HCJC, ex vice-principal ?

Business statistics is included in the module of Accountancy, just so you know. Alright, I really don't wish to argue further, it is draining. You can continue with your concept šŸ˜†

I think we are trying to establish the correct concept here. If my understanding is wrong here, it would be good if you can correct me.

You mentioned by your statistical knowledge, when you have 80 marks, it would be more difficult to get the next additional mark ? But if you answer a 1 MCQ mark question correctly, wont you get that extra mark regardless you have 60 or 80 marks now? It takes the same effort to answer the MCQ question, isn't it

By the way, I took Statistics module in University too and the concept you described above is alien to me. Perhaps my professor taught me wrongly too ?

Clearly, you did not understand the article that I provided you with: http://chrisguillebeau.com/the-more-you-improve/

Someone, please help me, I really don't wish to harp on it anymore.

I was the 4th batch of VJC, I had seniors and I attribute my success, partly to them. My principal was Mrs Lee, though I forgot her full name. She was a great principal as well, but we didn't interact much with Mrs Lee then. On the contrary, it was my seniors who assisted me in my studies and even ECAs (CCAs) at that time. Victorian's culture is unselfish, we cheer as one Victorian and of course I must thank the dedicated teachers there (Mr Tan, Mdm Heng just to name a few). In fact, VJ's results were outstanding and was top for my batch but subsequently once in the 90s and another in 2001 (the year of 911). So, it's not just once! You can check by all means. My point is, I value my seniors and IMO, they are integral in a stressful JC curriculum. People have different viewpoints on matter and I hope that we can respect that.

I rememebered VJC was only top for 1 year. Which year in the 90's were it top ? Even if it was top again in 2001, after that , it had never reached the peak again. Was that period after Mrs Lee left VJC? I understand she was a very good principal

You have written a lot but you have not explain how school culture and support can help the JC stay at the top, which wasn't in VJC case.

That article is not relevant to the case you brought up about 60 marks and 80 marks. Please read through the article properly and tell me how is it relevant to the case you cited below

Let me repeat what you say again.

Can you answer once and for all and stop beating round the bush?

Can't help you because I do not understand your logic too :scratchhead:
If you want my honest opinion, I think you are just trying to pull a fast one.

VJ was top in 1988, the 4th (my batch) batch. I cant remember which year in the 90s but there was once in the 90s and another in 2001. I agree with you that it had never reached the peak but it always holds its title as the top 3 JCs during that period, okay to be more prudent, top 5. I did mention how my seniors assist me in VJ and that the culture was very friendly and unselfish. How more detail do you want? If you would like, show me an example of your take on RJ. Besides, I am reluctant to post things unrelated to NYJC, which is the main subject in this thread. This will actually dismiss parents who have genuine interest in NYJC because it goes off topic. Put yourself in their shoes. Moreover, please help EthanEthan (via other platforms) if you have the time.

But you were the one that mentioned that the principal is not a critical factor in a JC's performance and even after he left, there will be no impact ( in fact it might get better) with great school culture and support.

I was just highlighting to you the fact that VJC did not managed to retain the #1 position after Mrs Lee left. I know VJC is still a good top 5 college but you do realise that there is a great disparity between the top two JCs and the rest. The top 2 JCs are really way ahead in performance.

It is entirely relevant. I really rest my case and I see no point in explaining to you if you still want to continue your concept of:

It takes the same effort to achieve 90 marks from 80 marks when compared to achieving 80 marks from 70 marks.

While I say that it gets tougher as you improve (in this case when the score is higher), meaning that:

Though the difference of 90 and 80 is the same as the difference of 80 and 70, the effort needed to get a 90 marks from 80 is a lot more significant than a raise from 70 to 80.

TBH, I did mention that the students had little interaction with Mrs Lee (the principal). Though I know she's a good principal because I cant find any fault with her, but it doesn't mean she played an important role in VJ's success. In fact, I attributed my success to the unwavering support my seniors had for me. Is this clear enough, because I seem to have said these a couple of times. FYI, VJ weren't that far from RJ and The Chinese High (HCI) then, we always have a close fight. I agree that the disparity is visible in todays context (2017), just like how I see NYJC has improved since my days.
