Why don't parents ask your children or read the JAE BOOKLET ?

The max is 6 points for those selected for CLEP or MLEP (NOT HUMANITIES PROG pls) at JC offering such programs.

      E.g 1: NYJC offers CLEP

If you are from Chung Cheng Main (feeder of NYJC), did HMT (scored A1-C6) and selected for CLEP, u enjoy 6 bonus points. You could technically get zero point if your L1R5 was 6 pts. Or if you're a 12-pointer, with 6 bonus points deducted, you could meet NYJC's 6-point COP and get into its Science faculty šŸ™‚

      E.g 2: TPJC offers MLEP

You are from TKGS, scored A1-A2 for CCA so you enjoy 2 bonus points. Additionally, you did Bahasa Indonesian as your 3rd Lang so again another 2 points. If you're selected for MLEP and going to TPJC, u will enjoy a total of 6 bonus points.

But most pp just get up to a max of 4 points these days as few apply for CLEP / MLEP.

OT: Didn't you guys take O levels? In the past, if u went back to the same JC after the '1st three months', u got another 2 bonus pts so net agg = zero pt was possible too in the past.

And also some of us are from even older eras? Dredging my memory, in my time, the only bonus points were for affiliation, and/or the \"first 3 mths\". We got a grade for CCA (A1, A2 etc) but no bonus points, and HMT hadn't been introduced.

Isn't it that the awardee of the humanities program with scholarship can get the extra 2 points, which means total 6 points can be deducted?
Excuse my ignorance. I had thought the max points ( or at least for most people) is 2 points? where does the 4 &6 points come from?
Max Bonus points deduction is 4 pts. Most students will have 2 pts from CCA. The other 2 points may come from affiliation or scoring C6 and above for Higher Chinese.
Thank you for the explanation šŸ™‚

OK...I'm slightly...only slightly...younger...we had SAP school so there was CL1 (before being called HMT).
What did they gain out of taking CL1? (this question took me >30 yrs to ask!!)

Yes, DH was exempted from Chinese during his JC days as he was from a pioneer SAP school.

                    Thank you zbear.

You may not be aware that this year, it seems like MOE has moderated the O level results such that fewer pupils had gotten net L1R5 of 2 or 3 points. I may be wrong but the average raw L1R5 seems to be 'worse' than the previous years. Just my 2 cents worth, I am of the opinion that MOE is skewed towards adjusting the average L1R5 higher to ensure that those who opted for top JCs are able to cope with their pace as they comprise mainly of IP pupils who were the top 3% of the PSLE cohort.

It shouldn't make a difference really, as the same number (proportion) of JAE students will go to the JCs. The COPs are determined by the last student who gets in, not by MOE. Assuming that this year's students have the same ability profile as previous years', then the student who get into the JCs should have the same ability levels.

You are right. Perhaps MOE is trying to narrow the COP gap between the top JCs? It is attempting to do that for top secondary schools with the new PSLE grading system.
Another question is how sure are we that IP comprises of only the top 10% PSLE pupils (excluding the DSA-ed) only? MOE webiste does not specify that. With the introduction of EJC IP in Y2K, has MOE increased its IP intake to include the top 11% or 12%? If so, we can't conclude that the same number of JAE students will go to the same JCs.

Sorry, too many numbers confuse me! To my non-mathematical mind, it seems that if there is a new JC, even though it may take in many students from its IP feeder schools, the JAE places will still increase overall. And if the \"top\" students are more spread out, then there should be a better chance for JAE students to get their pick of JCs?

Anyway, having more JCs in the top band is a good thing - I find the way people try to rank JCs with very similar intakes is rather silly. Sure, there is a great difference between COP4 and COP15, but between COP4 and COP5?

Yes . It all depends on the Nos intake too . School that have less ip students tend to have more JAE students intake And the cop will be slightly higher
