We bought a HDB in late 2014 because of the school, back then property were still on the high side so we choose HDB. But now the price has drop. Is there a way to go around it and bought a condo without meeting the HDB 5 year MOP? Or we really have to wait till end 2019 to be able to buy new launch condo?

HDB? No way to go round it.
However, you don't have to wait till MOP of 5 years as usually in the 4th year (2018), you can appeal to waive the MOP provided you are buying a property under construction that will TOP after your 5th year (2019).

Hi, thanks for the reply, that's sound good enough for us already.

              Yup.

On the other hand, if you have fulfilled the MOP for a HDB flat, you can buy a private without disposing the HDB.

That was my understanding ST..die die must hold on to the hdb flat (unless there is a change). Ours more on the attached sentimental value...so difficult to sell anyway.

Our old Punggol flat has been rented out for 8 years now. So it’s almost paid for itself. That said, at 13 years of age and 5 tenants later, it’s getting worn. Sigh! Have to mini reno soon. Then rent out to next tenant!

I read today that Punggol will be the new IT hub or something. So the area might continue to have a healthy demand for rental despite the number of units there now. So if you have a Punggol HDB and are thinking of selling it off… consider holding onto it and rent it out! (provided you have somewhere else to stay of course!)

It is very difficult to get HDB to waive unless you have valid reasons. Otherwise, they would open the floodgates of requests to waive the MOP so that they can take advantage of the current property market.

If you are interested, we can meet up to discuss more. 😃

Yes, a lawyer is required to assist in the filing of transactions - regardless if money have exchanged hands. If you require, I have several lawyers of which I can recommend them to you. They assisted many clients with decoupling and are therefore very familiar with the process.
