Hi there I don't have enough KP to start a new thread since I'm new here so I'm hijacking this thread. Basically my daughter received her A level results yesterday and it wasn't too ideal.


My question is, how important is personal statements to applying for universities overseas, and also locally? She is looking at getting into some overseas schools (still undecided but open to it) and NUS business school but I think her grades have just fallen short of the required rank points for NUS biz.

Any parents or undergrad here who has any experience with it that can share their perspective?

2. For those courses that req interviews (Law/Med/Dentistry), how many interviewers will there be usually?
3. Do we apply for scholarships at the same time as local/overseas uni applications or do we wait till we get the offers?

I can only answer for UK unis. Most of them won't hold the place. So for our NS boys, they usually have to apply the year before they are due to enter. Top UK unis really favor singapore A level students. It is not difficult to get offers from them if you do a good personal statement and have good grades. But I would really advise your child to write the personal statement yourself than to get someone else to write. Really, there is no glory getting into a course based on something not done by yourself.

You can start applying for scholarships already. Actually NS boys have an advantage of another 1 or 2 extra years to apply. They can also get testimonial from their army.

NUS, NTU, SMU are still publishing the latest 10 percentile and 90 percentile of 2016 intake for the 2017 batch application.

But based on the above URL, NUS, NTU, SMU should publish 15 percentile and 90 percentile for more accurate reference.

By the way, any kind soul here know how to mathematically estimate from the 10% - 90% Grades to extrapolate to 15% - 90% Grades.
