MyPillow:
Applied for RP infocomm via DAE.janet88:

Janet , can share which poly infocomm did ur ds applied earlier ?
How many choices n polytechnic can one apply via DAE?
for DAE, RP online application can apply up to 4 courses...there are 3 phases. we applied under phase 1 (feb 11-14), so the result for phase 1 is out March 1. for 2nd phase, result is out end March and 3rd phase result out in April.
not too sure about the other poly.
and at the same time u also apply SP via DAE route , thus ur ds get into SP?[/quote]I personally think that doing Engineering at SP is better than Infocomm at RP. An engineer can easily be a programmer but a programmer can't be an engineer overnight.

Engineering choice is way better than Infocomm, in terms of future career option.
Initially, worried that her son stuck in MI (Commerce stream, allocated) Based on her son's interest, he is more towards Sciences field, more hands-on approach.
Worried, because if he were to re-apply for Polytechnic next year, Or
if he were to sit for IGCSE exam as a private candidate in some subjects : the IGCSE Syllabus exam is different from our GCE O level exam syllabus, for the same subject.
Also learnt a lot, from Janet son's experience : choosing between Polytechnic route vs. Choosing A level route
Now, Very happy for Janet & her son.
Warmest, heartiest Congratulations
Thank God, is over. -

Not an appeal - this is her original application as she couldn't take part in JAE (no 'O' levels). And she didn't ask when they would let her know the outcome! The test and interview went OK, she says, but not really sure what they were looking for. There were 23 applicants at the test/interview, which was for 3 different courses. Some students were only applying for 1 or 2, some for all 3. Some were appeal cases. Hopefully they will decide quickly and let us know soon.slmkhoo:
Thanks, everyone!
when will your daughter know the result of her appeal? -
i guess a good lesson learnt is...the first choice for JAE is very important.
even though MI may be 3 years, but cannot escape from GP and MT which are tough.
SP EEE offer came about via DAE and so we were able to check out the syllabus...but when RP info technology was offered, we could make a comparison. EEE definitely offers a more diversified career path.
opportunities don't knock all the time....hopefully this will make son cherish his course :xedfingers: -

Principles of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (publisher:Pearson)
Digital Electronics (Pearson)
As for Engrg Maths, its actually something similar to A Maths. If your DS has not studied A maths in upp Sec, he will be allocated to a class to study basic A Maths in the 1st semester of the yr.
There will be structured programming whereby they study C++ programming. I bought a 2nd hand book from Bras Basah complex (C++ Programming -by D.S.Malik).
Hope the info helps. -
JJ_chua:
thank you. i will inform hubby regarding the titles. appreciate your input.

Your son can still pursue an engineering degree later and after poly. Once again, happy to know your son successful appeal into EEE course. Well done!JJ_chua:

thanks. we finally completed the enrolment procedure yesterday. at the same time, found a faster route to reach SP instead of taking the train.
