CA1 answer scripts were returned this week, for each of the 4 subjects (English, Maths, Science Chinese) : for students in schools who had taken CA1 exam.

next week : is week 10, the last week of P4 Term 1.
for some schools, there is a Parents Meet Tr session, next week.
can ask your subject Tr, all the burning questions that you’ve (if any), during Parents Meet Tr session

Note the NEW changes made, to DSA requirement(s)

              lee_yl:
              From Straits Times:

Schools to refine DSA selection from 2017, to focus on identifying students with specific talents , and move away from recognising strong general academic abilities

As part of this refinement, schools will discontinue the use of general academic ability tests in Direct School Admission (DSA) selection by 2018, said Education Minister Ng Chee Meng.

Starting from 2018, MOE will also expand the number of DSA places so that all secondary schools can admit up to 20 per cent of their Secondary 1, non-Integrated Programme intake via DSA.
article mentioned that from 2018 : DSA, by general academic ability results, will be gone, eliminated : NO more.

However, article also mentioned that specific talent, ie. specific Academic subject : will still remain .
That means, Secondary schools like RGS (for example), that allow DSA entry by SPECIFIC Academic subject Domain (can be English, Maths, Science) -
              will still remain.

which batch of children will be hit, by these new changes of DSA requirement(s), starting from PSLE 2018, onwards ?
will be children, born in Y2006 (zodiac Year of Dog), onwards : including our golden Piggies, born in Y2007 too, etc
ie. hit current 2017 (Primary 5 students, P4 students, etc), onwards.

born in Y2006 : pioneering batch, affected
ours (piggies) : 2nd batch, hit

Nothing earth shattering. Abolition of General acad domain should have been announced last year after the talks by those MPs

You should take note of this instead.

Yup. This is the jaw dropping part of the announcement.

noticed that a lot of schools doesn't have CA nowadays..... is it a norm?

                    at P3 and P4 level :-
there are schools that do away with CA1 and CA2, leaving only SA1 & SA2 to deal with, meaning :
parents & students need to be stressed only 2 times per year, instead of being stressed all year round, in every single Term (4 times, per year).

And often, left with only SA1 & SA2, to handle :-
usually, the proportion or weightage for exams, allocated in schools, are SA1 (allocated 40%), while SA2 (the remaining 60 %), although there are also some schools that allocate SA1 (30%) with corresponding SA2 (remaining 70%), etc.

                    CA1 : exam in March (Term 1)
                    CA2 : exam in August (Term 3)

                    SA1 : mid-year exam, in May (Term 2)
                    SA2 : final, year-end exam, in October (Term 4)

However, do note that even though schools may do away with both CA1 & CA2, at level (P3 and P4) -
but come Higher level P5 (towards PSLE) : some schools also conduct CA1 & CA2.
                    in other words, CA1 & CA2 : can come back, at P5.

(Please check with your own school : whether this happen, or not)
                    (every primary school, differ)

Yup. This is the jaw dropping part of the announcement.

If you're consistently top 20% of your school's cohort, that's fine. But if you're not, then you need to fret about the impending quota.

Another question: For those with high COP like NYGH, CHS...don't tell me they're going to turn those affiliates who meet 250, 240 away to make way for non-affiliates as soon as the places are full for affiliates (assuming that is a strong batch where a vast majority of affiliates do meet the affiliation COP)? :siao:

Actually all these diff practices will impact on the student's overall %. For stronger ones, pocketing/securing full or near CA% is a breeze. For weaker ones, if they botch the biannual high-stake SAs, they plunge immediately when marks are converted to %, as there's no CA% to salvage/bolster their overall %. All these will impact on their DSA odds somehow (many ask for P4-6 school results).
