Anglo Chinese Family of Schools

Thanks very much Zac’s mum for the helpful information:)

Thanks to everyone who replied! I would have been happy to consider either ACSJ or SJIJ but it is my parents who are very keen to have my son attend ACSP. But since we’d be in Phase 2C, if we were balloted out, I’m trying to figure out where my son would end up–or where would be a good backup school to turn to–for phase 2C supplementary, which I assume would be my only option at that point? I noticed there is a Balestier Hill school in the neighbourhood. Are there any other schools in the surrounding area that anyone might recommend I look into (which would probably have available spots after phase 2C)?

Essentially it will come down to the last day and hour of the phase. You may have friends or family members who situate themselves at each school to WA the numbers. Be prepared for very last minute swing in numbers, whether by withdrawal or registration
Truly exciting right down to the last few minutes! -
Can i check, assuming i have applied online for for School A, and on the last day i decided to withdraw and go for School B, I have to withdraw in person at School A with my husband’s IC and my IC? my husband doesnt need to be present with me right? And I need to go to School B in person to apply? Cant do online anymore?

Yes that's right. Online applications aren't available on the last day of phase 2C. Historically, online applications close at the end of the 2nd day.
Yes only 1 spouse needs to show both ICs to withdraw. Run over to School B with the ICs and the other spouse can take over the application process because the runner will be breathless by then. That's what happened in our case! Our regret was the time wasted in having to withdraw from School A & rush over. The smarter way would be to just wait at both schools till the numbers have settled down then decide which school & do 1 application. -
I see! So my hubby can get the form from them and start filling in the form first, once I reach with the ICs we can submit liao? Are there a lot of fields to fill in the application form?
-
Yup that’s right. There may be some sort of queue system, so u may need to get a Q number then get the form then spend time filling it up. And yes there are many many fields…make sure u have all the critical info about your child stored somewhere for easy reference. Documents please make 2 photocopies in advance to be safe. Some schools charge u on the spot if you use their office photocopier!

This may be slightly off topic but how is SJIJ compared to ACS? One is Anglican and the other is Methodist. Curriculum wise are they more or less about the same?

SJIJ is Catholic btw. I'm not sure of the differences in curriculum, but for Chinese language, all these 3 schools assume the boys don't speak Mandarin at home. So the lessons and tingxie lists are made simpler & Chinese is promoted in more fun ways, eg. parents are encouraged to use MOE's interactive website xuele.sg together with their boys. -
