Hence, my opinion that if there's no balloting for 2A1 (within 2km), then go for it. If balloting is involved, stick to Ai Tong. If your friend's place is around or next to Ai Tong, the address should fall between 1km to 2km from SNGS.
Oh yes, dragon baby batch, didn't consider that. Perhaps I was just thinking that it's a waste to give up a place in St Nic which is a very good pri school with affiliation to a good secondary Sch. -

i am thinking of the same thing too...especially since there are 2 girls and there is affiliation but it's risky to give Ai Tong a miss when it is guaranteed under Phase 1.

For what it’s worth, the birth rate for Dragon babies in 2012 was 42663, which was a far cry from the 2000 Dragon babies (46997). So the competition may be intense, but not THAT intense. MOE is likely to increase the vacancies for the schools, so don’t worry too much at this moment.

I thought you can join 2A(1) only if you're registered as alumni member. If you were from that school but not registered as alumni member, you can only go for 2A(2). If there are too many applicants in 2A(1), you won't even get to register in 2A(2) at all.

For SNGS, we are only concern about 2A(1) as applicants aiming for 2A(2) won't even get a sniff. -

Oh, I didn't know that a place near Ai Tong can also fall within 1-2km of SNGS. That's a piece of valueble info. Thanks, will ask him to check out his address using OneMap. I think if it's indeed within 1-2km of SNGS, then very likely no need to ballot for alumni for that distance.

Beyond the numbers, policy has also changed with quotas imposed such that popular schools like SNGS are still likely to have balloting under the alumni phase! -
for St Nicholas, being a Full school, if balloting for alumni Phase 2A(1) were to arise, normally will be for SC outside or exceeding 2 km radius, from school SNGS. The last time balloting arose for P2A(1), it was for SCs staying beyond 2 km.
In a batch, Once balloting arise within alumni Phase 2A(1), ex-students Phase 2A(2) will become bypassed, made redundant, or kids get left behind, for that year or batch.
For kids born in popular zodiac Dragon year, all should join alumni Phase 2A(1) by the Moe dateline stipulated, to be safe. But those SC staying outside 2 km, just be mentally prepared, in case need to ballot. If really have to ballot, those staying more than 2km, must have a backup school, either in Phase 2B or 2C.
Example
If u are a Catholic, but failed during balloting at alumni Phase 2A(1) into SNGS, your backup school can be other CHIJ family / Catholic schools (eg : Holy Innocent, Marymount, De Laselle, Canossa, St Anthony, St Anthony Canossian), under Phase 2B. -

OT...i do hope my son born in 2000 will have an easier time when he enlists for NS since he is part of the 46,997 dragon batch as he still has another op to correct his nose and jaw due to his cleft. -
This site is amazing! All you wonderful people sharing so much experience!
It looks like temasek is the only primary school <2km to us and we are phase 2C. Is it risky? Will it be very over subscribed for dragon babies? :thankyou:
