Wonder what they will do with the existing plots of land (for those JC that are going to move).

8 JCs merging (effectively closing down 4 JCs) seems a bit drastic.

If Serangoon, Innova, Tampines and and Jurong JCs are no longer taking in JC1 students from next year, doesn’t that mean effectively that these four JCs are closing down, and not that they’re merging with the other JCs?

Exactly, just a better way to make it sound nicer

            I don't think it's drastic.

Today, there are over 20 JCs / institutions offering a A level / IB / IP programme. 20 years ago (1997), there were only 14 JCs offering A level. Clearly, the increase in number of JCs (Pioneer, Meridian, Innova, Eunoia) and IP institutions (e.g. DHS, RVHS) over the years may have been a little too much given the dwindling pool of students.

Interestingly, the 3 newer JCs (with Eunoia being spared the pain of being a stillborn) are among those merged. While net-net, the number of JCs have been scaled back to as before (with Serangoon taking Eunoia place), the number of A level students may have increased with the additional students provided by the IP schools.

Probably leave them there for PRIME purposes (c.f. EJC temp campus @ Mt Sinai)
Unless - like I mentioned in the other JC thread - they need to take back the lands for redevelopment.

Not sure if JJC is anywhere near the new Jurong Lake District/HSR
Not sure if Innova is smack in the heart of the future Woodlands North Business District.
Not sure if TPJC plot is reusable. It's nestled among many HDB flats
Not sure if SRJC field will be chopped as they are widening Upp Serangoon Road right now - 1 extra lane added.

These JCs names (above) will become history, after they closed down & last batch of A level students merged into other existing JCs

If the target is for 40% of the cohort to go on to uni, then it will be good if as many if the remaining 60% have some sort of vocational training and ready for the marketplace rather than A level.

Can't have too many uni grads if they aren't creating uni jobs fast enough. I think I must have mentioned 2 or 3 times before on the impact of govt's cutting back on FT quota (post 2011 populist policy). It's cannibalised a few sectors and they now need to fill that gap. Also, because of this smart nation thingy, they probably just require ICT dip holders to get it running.

Yeah those private colleges with obscure angmoh names, until such time it’s good for state to sell them for a tidy profit.

I thought MOE planners are scholars :? why start JCs like Innova, Meridian when the better ones could go straight to IP schools after PSLE?
