Hi, i'm new here, i need help about which school to chose for my son this year. My 母校 is Pei Chun but i am staying in Yishun and i am worry about the distance and there are quite a few goods pri school in Yishun. If i give up and go for phrase 2C which i am looking at Northland primary which is near my house. But i worry my son can't get it. What should i do? I really need some advise cause i am so worry, don't know what to do. Thanks .
You can pick a guarantee school (which happens to be a good school) in Phase 2A and use the school bus to solve your distance / logistic issue. Or you can risk balloting in Phase 2C and may end up in your least preferred choice.
If you are ok with the alternatives in Yishun like Ahmad Ibrahim, North View, etc, then go for balloting. Personally, I'll stick to Pei Chun in Phase 2A and save myself the stress and worrying. -

If I may add, the history of Northland is usually balloting for SC within 1 km and is 2 for 1 space.
Sometimes, you may want to take into consideration the distance. I am aware of at least 1 in my DD school who takes more than 1 hour to reach school and that is by school bus as she is the first to board en-route to school and last to alight when going home. -

I am a single working parent, school bus fee maybe a problem for me as i have checked the fee from Pei Chun transport company. But it is a pity if i give up Pei Chun.
I just worry if he can't go to the school nearby will MOE put him in far away Pri School?
Izzit so important to put them in a good school? :scratchhead: -

Saw few posts that NL, CF and a few schools in Yishun last year had balloting, just hoping this year won't be so. I am staying in the central. -

If distance is a key concern to you, secure a place in a school that is near your house in P2C then. MOE will try to post your son to a school with vacancies if your son still does not have a confirmed place in any school by P2CS. So, go through the balloting history and look at the schools near to your house that still have vacancies in P2CS. Try to avoid balloting in P2CS.I am a single working parent, school bus fee maybe a problem for me as i have checked the fee from Pei Chun transport company. But it is a pity if i give up Pei Chun.

It is all up to you how important it is to put your child in a good school. Fellow forummers here just wanted you to be prepared in case your son is unsuccessful with the popular school near your house in P2C. -

If the school had balloted last year, it will be more of the same this year. It's safe to assume Northland and Chongfu will ballot < 1km this year and you should start planning for your back up for Phase 2Cs, just in case. Fortunately, there are plenty of schools in Yishun (e.g. Ahmad Ibrahim, Naval Base, Xishan) that won't ballot in Phase 2Cs

These schools may have been back-up schools for some people for the later phases such as phase 2cs if they historically have leftover seats in the last few phases. There may now not be as many leftover seats as before. Who knows, may now need balloting in phase 2c too…

In theory, yes that may happen.
However, the historical data for the past 10 years says it didn't happen and the trend curve doesn't indicate it will happen yet.
Still, it may be your lucky (or unlucky) year. -

Izzit so important to put them in a good school? :scratchhead:[/quote]It's your personal preference. I prefer nearby school so I can send my kids every morning without any problem. I don't like the idea of sending them by school bus as it will require them to wake up very early. Of course if you can get a seat in a nearby good school, it will be a plus. But if you want to be safe, just choose a not so popular school nearby in Phase 2C. -
This batch of students here, born in Year 2011 (year of Rabbit), due for P1 registration in coming 2017 July month (after June school holiday) : -
will start Primary 1, next year (2018, January Term 1)
Recently, MOE announced a list of primary schools, to be merged, in 2019.
The list of merged schools, is here.
https://www.gov.sg/news/content/more-schools-to-merge-in-2019-jcs-included
This means that when your child is in 2018 P2, if the school affected is to be merged, they will join the new merged school.
