Furthermore, that current piece of land in Bishan probably had lots of constraints in construction.
MOE also did not share what they are going to do with the various sites that will be vacant soon. Take Kim Seng Secondary and old Gong Shan Primary, for example, closed down for 20 years, the sites (in prime district 09) are still waiting for redevelopment.
I could have missed it but did MOE share some figures on the dwindling intakes of the various JCs to make their case more convincing. How many students will be affected? Why choose to close down these specific 4 and not others? Why merge and shift to an older JC (like AJC and YJC) when the other merged JCs are newer? There are issues of accountability and communications to the public. Since the government's last election victory in 2015, they have largely forgotten about all these.

never name a Junior College after HDB area name, for 3 out of 4 JCs that go down in history, 3 are named after HDB areas :-
(Tampines, Jurong, Serangoon, Innova) JCs
Who remain ?
(Meridien, Pioneer, Anderson, Yishun) JCs

RI would be asked to increase intake...but the quality of students also plays a part so that RI quality will not dilute. What is the level RI is willing to decrease if asked to take in more students?
RI does not set its COP; applicants set the COP. If suddenly only those with 20 points apply to enter RI, then the COP will be 20!
As for dilution, there is minimal difference, if any, between students with 1-2 points difference in L1R5 score, so even if the COP falls by a point or 2, it doesn't make any difference to the school. The current COP is set by the available places. -
Both Dunman High and Temasek JC are IP JCs, both located in the east.
As an IP JC, Temasek A level results : have room for improvement.
Do u think one day, is possible to merge TJC, into Dunman High ?
That means, at PSLE, merge the IP batch of students, from TJC, into Dunman High ?
After all, TJC IP batch intake is small, around 150 P6 psle students. Can ask Dunman High to absorb these 150 IP students, expand her intake ?
Then, as for the remaining JAE (O level students) from TJC : merge them into Victoria JC ?
in other words, increase the intake for VJC, for JAE students. After that, no more TJC, also go down in history.
This scenario : possible to happen one day, to TJC ? -

You can choose difficult options with many stakeholders, including some of the most difficult people around, like religious bodies, affiliated schools (students and parents), famous alumni, etc or just choose options that are easier. -

Location: generally, students will be willing to consider a JC that is either nearer their home or central. So having more JCs in the central area offers all students more choices but also means more competition for thses JCs. Fewer are willing to cross the island from east to west, say.

Perhaps some parents should start questioning the MOE Minister, BTW, which Minister is responsible?
Seriously, I am surprised that such big decisions were not communicated before implementation. Reading the news yesterday, it's obvious the affected teachers are unhappy n worried for their rice bowls (especially the older ones ) even though MOE kept assuring that they will not lose their jobs, Full of BS, I will say!!!
