8 Junior Colleges are Merging? Rumors or Reality?

And NCM is conspicuously absent too!lee_yl:
Actually many Singaporeans are very rational. Just provide some facts and figures and explain the rationale why all these established old name JCs have to go. Government has forgotten about the need for effective communications with the public.
Perhaps some parents should start questioning the MOE Minister, BTW, which Minister is responsible?
Seriously, I am surprised that such big decisions were not communicated before implementation. Reading the news yesterday, it's obvious the affected teachers are unhappy n worried for their rice bowls (especially the older ones ) even though MOE kept assuring that they will not lose their jobs, Full of BS, I will say!!!
The affected JC teachers will be retrained to teach either pri or sec school students, or be redeployed to MOEHQ for admin work, it clarified last night. Wonder if they are paid the same after their redeployment to teach bawling notti lower pri kids? What a culture shock! -
with fewer JCs left available now, after 4 shut down, COP standard go up, border-line O level resultsβ students hop over to Polytechnic, complicated β¦

re-deployed to teach Secondary school students instead of teach shut-down JC, but they are still teaching, salary won't be cut.
If teach primary school students, better still. Primary school syllabus, Much easier to teach -

You can never appoint a musical talent or Olympian to be our future Minister as the economy will collapse and budget will go bust, but you can instead co-opt an NMP from the arts sector to give his/her 2 cents in terms of policy formulation. All these music/sports DSA domains are BS designed for the G to appear inclusive.
P/S: that, unfortunately, is why we will continue to struggle in the new economy. -

Doubt RI COP will change that drastically. Maybe at worst, 4 (Sci) & 5 (Arts)?
MOE will \"ask\" and RI will agree. As per my reply to jetsetter, the devil is always in the detail. An increase of one is still an increase.lee_yl:
RI is an independent school so enjoys full autonomy.
But if minister \"asks\" and their principal says no, probably we will see a new principal.
Even if RI realistically increases the intake by 30 (or even 60) per cohort, their COP will only change marginally (+1) but most likely, it will not change at all. It's wishful thinking if parents are hoping for an easier access to some of these colleges because they have \"increased\" their intake.
Sadly, students who are scoring 15-20 points will be those most affected. No matter how you massage it, the remaining colleges will not be able to absorb the capacity lost by the 4 JCs. Effectively, the message will be for students with these scores to look elsewhere - poly or MI.
15-20 points won't be affected as they still have Yinnova Junior College to go to. If they do well, they can opt for Juneer Junior College or Tampidien Junior College, depending on whether they live in the West or East. If they score 15, then Andergoon Junior College is the best choice. -

Yeah, but JC teachers are Hons grads, so pay so more to teach lower pri, quite sayang ha? Talk about cost savings. :moneyflies: This is called underemployment. 倧ζε°η¨. Maybe they can vie for HOD, Level Head, or A/VP posts.

Doubt changes will be that drastic. Using the 2016 COP as reference:

COP will move +2 max.
Hence, AJC / SRJC new COP may be 11/11.
Tampines/Meridien 13/13
Jurong/Pioneer 15/15
Yishun/Innova 20/20 -

i feel the same. Poly path is not any easier than JC...i am saying this not because my son is in the poly but he has to get a high GPA in order to apply for local U.I find it disturbing that some people still think Poly route is inferior to JC route.
These days Poly is so happening. -
jetsetter:
GP is a very tough subject...even PW will kill my son.
Poly is suitable for certain groups of learners. I don't understand why parents die die want to impose on their DC to fulfil their own unfulfilled dreams to enter the uni also. You cannot force a hands-on individual to study high literature, write profound academic articles or complex Math concepts. A lot of poly people are good in ICT, M/C/E Engg, Sales / Consumer / Event Marketing, Accountancy.
there are people who do not encourage kids to enter poly because of tuition grant. as singaporeans enjoy tuition grant in poly, they feel that it will be harder to enter local U compared to those who took JC path.
whether there is any truth to it, it's beyond my control. my boy is EEE in the poly. -
phtthp:
but like what jetsetter mentioned, culture shock teaching primary and secondary school students compared to JC.

Primary school is going through a revamp in grading system from t score to AL.
