Where do you live? Or are you prepared to move nearer to the school?

Hi BigDevil,

Thanks for your advise. That really helps. Thanks again.

Hi BigDevil, so sorry for just noticing your reply. We can move to the aiming school.

I would suggest you take a look at the balloting history then.
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/singapore-primary-1-registration-school-balloting-history/

Not knowing where you currently live, I can't use the exact location to advise.
So let's take Yishun as an example.
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/yishun/

For a PR under phase 2C, look under the column \"TUR\" under \"Phase 2C\" and
look for schools that are not coloured. These are schools which do not require
balloting in phase 2C.

Then you want to look for those with reasonably high TUR.
Eg. Yishun Primary whose phase 2C TUR was consistently 70+ to 90+%
This indicates it has good reputation and is quite popular in the area.

Hope this helps.
Hi All,

I'll be registering my #1 child (girl) under Phase 2A1 in Red Swastika. However, the school is a little far from mine and the nanny's place. School bus to & fro nanny's place costs $390/month according to the transport co, and bus journey will be long. We are thinking of doing the withdraw and apply at Phase 2C at Kong Hwa where we are <1km, depending on stats. I prefer a co-ed school as my #2 is a boy and born in sg 50 year.

I know there will definitely be balloting for Phase 2C <1km at Kong Hwa. Gathering the views from all the experts here, at what point would you not take the risk to try registering at Kong Hwa, e.g. what % of applicants vs no. of vacancies? Will there be constant updates on the no. of applicants at the school on each day of Phase 2C?

When is the balloting day for phase 2C? Is it on August 2, the day of announcement of results? And is balloting held in the school and can parents attend? My dad is an alumni of Kong Hwa, but unfortunately grandparents's alumni cannot be taken into account 😞

Tanjong Katong Primary would be my backup, the only downside is they are moving to a holding site near Bedok swimming complex for 2 years starting from next year, which will make little difference in terms of distance vs Red Swastika.

Thanks all for the advice!

If you are thinking of doing a withdrawal and applying at a school that you know will surely ballot, my advice is don't bother to apply in P2A1 in the first place.

There is no such thing as \"at what point you won't take the risk\". As long as there's a ballot (which is almost guaranteed for Kong Hwa), it's silly to withdraw to join in the fun. It's a game of chance and even if there's a low probability of getting balloted out, you could still be the extra person.

once withdraw from Phase 2A1 Red Swastika primary, ballot for Kong Hwa under Phase 2C less than 1 km for SC, in the event fail at balloting into Kong Hwa :

you cannot go back to Red Swastika primary anymore. can only enrol into schools that still have vacancies, under Phase 2C Supp.

So, if u want to try your luck balloting into Kong Hwa (Phase 2C) : have to prepare for backup schools, in Phase 2C Supp

Red Swastika is a good school. So many parents longing to send their child into Red Swastika.

Why want to witHdraw, risk balloting at Kong Hwa ?

On balloting day itself, luck can swing either way : verdict outcome is either in or out.

To answer your qn : "at what point, would you not risk registering at kong hwa", the reply is -
There isn’t anything like "what is the percentage of my good luck going to be, on actual balloting day, Phase 2C "?
Is either zero or 100 %. Either balloted in or out.

Zero : no luck
100 : very lucky

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I would like to ask some advice on Yu Neng and Gongshang primary sch. As for YU Neng, i am eligible for 2A1 cos i am the alumni. for Gongshang I need to undergo 2C as stay <1km. Thinking of the distance, i would prefer to enroll in Gongshang but i scared i cant get in.

Hope to hear some advice. :thankyou:

Same reply for you.

Which is the balloting day for Phase 2C (the most competitive Phase in the entire P1 Registration, because it is open to public, for balloting ) ?

According to Moe, balloting day (Phase 2C) is on Wednesday (2 August, 2017)

The announcement of Results day, is actually balloting day. What are they going to announce ?

Because it is the day all the primary schools in Sg who are going to participate in Phase 2C balloting - will announce the results of balloting, to anxious parents seated inside the hall or inside a balloting room / venue, allocated by schools.

may refer Moe dates of balloting here :-
https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/primary-one-registration/phases

If you withdraw from Yu Neng, ballot Gongshang at Phase 2C, on balloting day (Wednesday, 2 August 2017) :-

If that small ping pong ball that represent your child, manage to roll out of the fast spinning, rotating golden cage at Gongshang primary balloting avenue that day, Congratulations ! your child is IN.

Otherwise, pls proceed to enrol your child into a school at Phase 2C Supp, that still got remaining vacancies. By the end of Phase 2C, Yu Neng primary will be full house, can't go back Yu Neng anymore.

So the qn, you face yourself bravely, is :-
Do you dare to allow the fate of the ping pong ball, to decide the fate of your child : which primary school for the next 6 years, to go to?

Some parents, in your situation, will dare to take risk.
Whereas other parents, will avoid this type of risk, as much as they can.

On balloting day, there are 3 types of parents' facial expression :-

a) those very happy, because their child's ping pong ball rolled out of the cage.

b) those very, very disappointed, didn't cry on the spot, controlled their emotion, but bear a heavy heart deep inside, because balloted out.

c) those who sobbed on the spot, because the tension built up in the days, prior to balloting, was too much to bear. They are very disappointed at their own luck, because didn't get in.

I am in the same situation as you. School that I am eligible for phase 2A is not within walking distance. But, the schools that are within walking distance requires balloting. I will not take the risk and will go ahead to enrol my girl at phase 2A.

Try not to use a ruler to measure the distance. You should refer to the official source.

In any case, if you are > 1km from Canberra, you won't start a chance as balloting will occur for < 1km.
