hi, does it look like 2017 S1 intake not allocated based on T scores ?

sorry! I meant the S1 class allocation. :?
Are the students mixed at random in all classes, or is there a top class?

Unless I am wrong, I believe it to be randomly allocated. My child has better PSLE results but was sent to a supposedly last class (by alphabet) when compared to her friend who has a lower tscore.

Anyone going for this event? Seems to be very attractive and meaningful public event. :boogie:

Hi! My DS just got transferred from CL to HCL. He sort of requested personally for it and sat through a test I suppose and only telling me after he was given the transfer with the letter (think he insisted to the school to keep it silent as I had once rejected him from doing so scared he cannot handle) so I was not really mentally prepared. It is good that he is mature enough to insist on decisions that may benefit him given that HCL students enjoy much more opportunities but will it be stressful for a student like him who did't take HCL before (despite his CL results have been consistently quite well)? šŸ˜“

Glad ur DS took the ownership and responsibility of his decision. šŸ™‚

I transferred the same way as he did at year 2 when I was there (and yes it was a rewarding bid). WIll likely feel abit unfamiliar at first as the standard of the paper would not be the same definitely. But if ur DS can pass the entrance test (usually should be a HCL paper) den shouldt be an issue bah. Language skills is accumulative so it will eventually get better with practice and exposure. The school confirm plus chop will give him the required amount of assistance so just support him along the way and it will be alrite. :rahrah:

Some tips regarding preparing for O Levels (since many of the current Sec 3s are asking so guess will as well be better to share it). Its not shared by the teachers but rather a Nan Chiau High tradition passed down fm our seniors (VERY STRAIGHTFWD, NO SHORTCUTS). *applicable to A Levels also.

                      1) Never just read from text books. Rewrite ur own notes and read it thru everyday before school (1 subject a day). Use those notes to replace the text book as much as possible if u can since text books often include useless crap that will distract u fm the main pts. NEVER BLINDLY MEMORISE, always understand the concept thoroughly (after dat it will b natural to u what to write when the qn comes out). For triple sci and bio students pay extra attention to key words especially in Chem and Bio.

                      2) Revise early and clear off some subjects (especially those content heavy ones) before the Prelim 1. (Study finish SS, History TYS by Year 4 term 1) Boost ur confidence by securing ur As at the very start.

                      3) Chiong yearly TYS for E Math, A Math, Chem (especially), Bio, Physics (take out and do whenever u r on the train, bus, got nothing to do) Challenge urself to do as many TYS papers at one go (before the teachers even ask u to do it, u noe u r on track when u r a few papers ahead of what the teachers r going thru). DONT REFER TO ANYTHING EXCEPT UR CALCULATOR, treat it as a timed exam practice. Make sure u get close to 90% of the highest possible mark, let say at least 110/120 for Chem full paper (dats der standard for my class dat time if not must copy lines). Finish the TYS for the sciences before Prelim 2 in June. Remember, everything in the TYS should be very very familiar to u!

                      4) For any subject dat u fail to get above the 90% target for more than 5 papers, buy the TYS again and redo again in the same format as above. Most importantly dont get the mistakes wrong again.

                      5) Get somebody to challenge with u for anything testable (preferably those having roughly same or higher standard than u, so yall can get a mutual comparison of where yall stand). Dat will be a motivation for u to work harder to win. (some healthy competition is necessary to push urself further)

                      6) Go haunt ur teachers for past year papers (NCHS papers should be quite high standard alrd) or other school papers, especially those very hard ones (try cultivate the mindset that you like to do papers)

                      7) Consult until u know everything. Don't leave anything unsure behind ur back. Ur teachers r there for a reason, dont be a screwed up by going for extra tuition classes but still not getting the issues solved when u see ur sch teachers every single weekday.

šŸ˜Ž Keep urself from all leisure activities except exercising nearing Prelim 3, until after the last \"written\" paper of O Levels (can play abit before the MCQ paper 1s, but must do practices and sleep well before the paper 1s) Try maintain the routine in that 1 week of study break just before O's (don't lose the momentum), if not maintain the habit to come school mug with a bunch of kiasu friends (yes I mean it, those who are damn focused to study so dat dey will keep u deterred fm any distractions).

                      9) Treat Prelim 3 as an actual exam (actually its legit since it will be the reference for SEAB if anything goes wrong for ur results as stated in the regulations).

                      10) MOST IMPORTANTLY BE SELF-DISCIPLINED. Know ur goals and never procrastinate. Remember the values č‡Ŗå¼ŗäøęÆć€åŠ›ę±‚å“č¶Šć€äøå±ˆäøęŒ ć€åŠŖåŠ›å„‹ę–— (these shd be very familiar to yall, shd be still echoed very frequently). Nothing is possible without hard work and preparation, u nid to be better than the rest to stand out.

If can follow the stuffs above and do it well it shdt b hard to excel with straight As alrd. šŸ˜„
