      Ladylady:
I spoken to the head in charge of dsa on last sat. He told me that if the child do not hv an academics results a range of 80-90s the kid will not likely be selected he meant be it which category the child dsa in.

So ultimately it is the academic that they are looking for isn't it although the kid dsa via music, leadership, basketball etc?
Head of dsa of njc or another school?

I think schools are trying to avoid the RI episode, whereby academically, students are unable to perform up to standard, but schools are unable to release them to the main stream because their subjects / lessons are not synchronized with that of the main stream schools.

Is dsa head of njc I spoke with

Oh he didn’t specifically to me on all subjects average or each subjects but I guess shld be the 3 mains subjects must be within 80-90s. He mentioned that if the child is 60-70s range then if the child is in dsa he may have a hard time catching up.

So ultimately be it dsa via music, sports or leadership it is still the academics that they will look into

Thanks LadyLady, agree that if can't cope with academics, kid would suffer if he gets into the school via DSA. My friend's latest update from NJC - they have about 500-600 applicants (for about 60-80 spots?) and they are sending email replies by batches, be it shortlisted or not shortlisted. So for those who applied njc DSA, hang-on!

You make it sound as if that's ultimately the criteria, which it isn't. The candidate would need to demonstrate their qualities in sports / arts / leadership.

80-90 is just an established baseline for the candidate. It's the minimum but if you can't meet the minimum, what's the point as the ultimate sufferer is still the student.

Hi floppy that’s what he says. Not that I make it sound that criteria。

Bec when I spoke to him I hv not send in my son dsa yet. So he ask me if hv 80-90s then send in his application if 60-70 he ask me no need to send him.

Yes, Ladylady was right. It is NJC’s academic criteria that the applicants have to fulfil for their 1st round. NJC’s CCA’s 1st round is totally different from other IP schools that require applicants’ sports domain to be in zonal competition or Top 3 in that sports. If your child dsa via sports to other IP schools, the result no need to be 80-90s range, can be 75%. These schools are really looking for sports talent.

That is why NJC stated that "no past experience is required" for any CCA that your child wants to dsa. NJC is NOT looking for sports talent after all. But of course, your child also must know how to play a bit of that sports even though they are not looking for sports talent. Their 1st round is just like the primary school’s CCA trial & auditions.

But for applicants dsa through Music or Art-- The child really need to have past experiences. Once again, NJC is looking at school results first before they shortlist the applicants for the 1st round.

Maybe any parents can update here if their child get shortlisted for NJC’S 1st round even though the school’s results are below 80s range, in total overall or specific subjects??

I see, so those who didn’t receive notification for music, basketball and track & field means not successful at all? My friend’s son applied for basketball but has not received any notification yet…[/quote]

Hi, highly not successful bah,Ask your friend to call NJC to confirm better.
