Went through the DSA exercise last year. A lot of waiting and uncertainties. Super relieved when DD got the offer. School strongly advised to apply DSA. Think school need to meet some KPI. Many years later will be DD2 turn. Hope they have scrapped this dsa thingy by then. Go back to good old days when only PSLE results decide.

One of the gep Centres...I was also surprised to hear that from DD. My concern then was that she will be upset if she is not successful. The school she DSA only announced the outcome on the last day. Poor thing... everyday she asked me if got receive email from school. She was then in the midst of some tests or exams ( if I recall correctly).

How time flies. It was 4 yrs ago when my DD went thru her DSA in 2014.

Why does DSA mean to us :
DD : DSA was an opening door for her to get into the dream school of her choice
Me : To alleviate the stress of coping in PSLE and with alot of 'if' .... what if she falls sick during PSLE / mental block

It was a good exposure for DD to understand from each sch's selection process, the panel of interviewers, DSA interview questions etc. While she went thru a SAP sch interview which involved a big group, the question asked was like.....
If you were an animal, what animal would you like to be and why? The purpose of these type of questions was to allow the interviewer to find out the personal attributes of the student.

Anxiety would surely kick in for both parents and child while waiting for the result. It was the same for us. We had to embrace the whole process. Along the way, I asked DD couple of questions to assess how she would take it if she failed to get in to her dream sch? What if she managed to get a WL in the other sch... would she accept it straightaway? She told me she would work harder to try PSLE route to get in her dream sch if she failed on DSA. Certainly, we were thankful that she made it to her dream sch via DSA. I know many of you as parents want the best for your children ..... and I am just like you too.
I found some answers in the DSA thread shared by parents in earlier batch which helped in the process for DSA. In event it fails.... your child has tried at its best effort and do give a pat and hug.

All the best in yr child's DSA ! Jiayou.

My gal applied for NUSH. She keep asking me and keep telling me that she will not get in. Then I ask her why, she said if she say will get in and if she don’t she will find it difficult to accept. Thus better to be negative. I dun know if I have made the right choice in applying for the DSA as I think the result will affect her.

But NUSH only accepts students via DSA. So no choice since she wants that school.
              Sigh!!

My suggestion (to kidsmummy): Somehow make sure that your anxiety is not transferred to her or communicated to her. It is a natural process for them to prepare menatlly for whatever result comes. It is really nice that she is developing that. her emotional quotient (EQ) is good which is what is important in life

hi Kidsmummy, besides mental preparation for a negative outcome, you may also want to have her thinking about other schools besides NUSH, since they only accept students via DSA. At least this way, she will not be too fixated on the DSA results.
