Hi all, pls guide us along. We are SC, staying just opposite Rosyth. However within 1km, there's only rosyth and xinming. We are in phase2c. I would prefer to get into rosyth. However, I'm worried if we can't get it, 2cS do not seem to have many schools with vacancies. What should we do?

My goodness. You are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Both Rosyth and Xinmin has required balloting within 1km for the last 11 years. Rosyth's odds are higher than Xinmin, although in the last few years the competition has dropped from being oversubscribed by 4 times to just 1.5 times last year.

What you need to do is to monitor the situation at both schools and register on the 3rd day when the situation is clearer. Also, start considering schools within 2km as possible choices for Phase 2C.

If you are with-in 1 KM, it is almost certain to get into Xin Min and balloting at Rosyth.. If you are comfortable with Yio Chu Kang Primary or Montfort Junior (if boy). you can still try your luck at Rosyth.

What janet88 said are good reasons. In addition, it is my belief that this year's 2C is likely going to be more competitive than last year's, especially for traditionally \"2nd choice\" schools. This is because of the significant reduction in places and schools this year. If your 2nd choice school is on the borderline and may not have places in 2C(S), you should go for it in 2C instead of gambling in 2C(S).

PRs will naturally go for the less popular schools in 2C, since they have no chance in the hotter schools. MOE set aside lesser places for PRs and foreigners this year. The total number of places is actually lesser than the total births (PRs+SCs) 6 years ago. So you can imagine the pressure on PRs to secure a place by 2C. While SCs may have absolute priority over PRs in individual phases, if an SC gets balloted out of a place in 2C while a PR gets into his 2nd choice school in 2C, the SC will still lose out to the PR.

Bottom line - Don't waste your 2C chance to get into a reasonably good school. Like floppy said earlier, a bird in hand is worth much more than dunno how many in the bush.

If you are not game enough to try for these 2 schools, go for schools which are 1-2 km or slightly further. Having to ballot for any school within 1km is a stressful thing. Personally I do not have the courage to go for balloting. My heart will drop out during the balloting process.

You will have a better chance in Xinming. If you insist to register in Rosyth, be prepared for the worst by choosing another school for Phase 2C(S).

I’ll be using my own address to register for School A within 1km which usually requires balloting in Phase 2c.

If I have to try again at Phase 2cs, I’m targeting School B which is within 1 km from my parents’ place. Can I do the statutory declaration using my parents’ address for Phase 2cs even though I used my own address for Phase 2c?

Yes, you can. It will be a mad rush to get everything done before P2Cs though.
Furthermore, even though your parents stay within 1km, they will be grouped with the 1 to 2km group (this is the same for all phases). You have to be certain that there will be not balloting for < 2km, otherwise, it will be another round of stress.

While the risk for Xinmin is lower, Xinmin is still likely to ballot for those staying within 1km. So it still all boils down to luck. Personally, if both my target schools require balloting <1km, I will choose Rosyth.

If really want guaranteed and stress free, you need to look at schools within 2km that will not be oversubscribed in Phase 2C.

Tanjong Katong Primary will be moving to holding site for 2 years (2018 & 2019) at Upper Change Road, does anyone here know will there be single session or 2 sessions (morning and afternoon)? Where can i find the information, i look thru their website but no further information on the move? Can i call the school and check because i have yet to register my DD for P1. I’ll register in phase 2C. Thanks…
