DSA 2017

Harrychew:
DSA allows flexibility, but ultimately the school also has to consider the impact on the DSA students if they are unable to catch up with their schoolmates. It is an improvement already for DSA to focus on students with specific strength in CCA or particular subjects. I would think that DSA has served its function by admitting students who are very strong in specific subject, but slightly weaker in other subjects such that they may not qualify for PSLE COP of the school. DSA is abused if the school takes in mostly students who can easily qualify on PSLE score.[/quote]I agree with you, Harrychew. But we can't be sure that schools, especially the top schools, are willing to give co to students who are very strong in one particular subject, but tscore may or may not meet the cut-off due to other weaker subjects. Subject domains are after all academics. At the very least, HCI and RI shortlist students with excellent school results only. They do not meet the criteria stated nor do they have any comp cert for that domain. They are mainly school toppers, and some with no CCA or leadership whatsoever. Hence the thought...top schools still look for students whom they are sure will meet their cut-off points. Of course students with excellent school results AND achievements will have high chance. But HCI and RI apparently do, to a certain extend, trade off talents with superb school results.
The application process/form may be so, but not necessarily the shortlisting process. It can still be considered as general academics...Gxmas:

No general academics, only specific academic subject, e.g. Maths, science, English, mother tongue.
RI and HCI, applicants in same domain go through same process, should be fair. -
I just wonderโฆ if HCI and RI have, at their open house shared that their DSA would reduce to 35%, then I assume for each domain, they would be stricter while shortlisting? Then how can they afford to shortlist students with only excellent school results? These are the very students everyone is talking aboutโฆ they should be using tscore and not dsa with almost no talents. Of course it also depends on how talents are defined or decided by each school. I just thought that given the smaller %, schools, especially the top tier, would then ensure that ALL shortlisted do have evidence of talents, apart from school results?

That's true... and I'm sure they can handle the outcome better than us as well. Hope the interview went well for your girl today

She is happy with her performance and whatever the outcome, I am proud of her for doing her best.
Thanks again for your helpful advice; it really came in useful. All the best to your son! -
Anyone receive call/email from VS under leadership domain?
We're still waiting.

Not sure about other schools. For RGS, they have to take a subject written test. DD who took the test last year told me the contents are pitched at Sec 1 level. I supposed this is how they identify subject talents. Geppers also took the test. -
