        Orb:
Seriously, if parents are holding back (this includes those parents who had registered in the earlier phases) and only registering on the last day (especially in the last part of the afternoon), how are parents able to guage the demand (such as balloting and even their odds) of a school?

I Think parents shld just register as early as possible so others can make an informed decision on their chances.
You are assuming that most parents will monitor the situation like stock market. Well, some do, but many don't šŸ™‚
While it varies from school to school, on the average, about 70% of applicants will register by the 1st day. If there is interest, I can run some numbers and work it out for each school last year.

rough and about that number although i am using my head rather than computer. šŸ˜‚
we can plot a graph and also can see what is the movement day to day but it will be covered by some who enter at 1km and the other out of 1km on the same day.

I chiak bah kah eng. Here you go:

Note: The rate is the number registered on each Day versus the total number of vacancies available for Phase 2C. Hence, the sum of the rates will NOT add up to 100%.

              2016 Take-up-rate over 3 Days of Phase 2C

I guess the info will be extremely helpful for parents moving forward so they can expect the guesstimate numbers.

Its pretty obvious the pull out from ACPS had a spill over effect to ACJS and SJI Jr with the uptake in registration especially for SJI Jr.

All the best to those who are registering under Phase 2C! (1 year ago, it was my turn. This year i'm done with Phase 1)

                      May I share my experience?

Last year i registered on the last day (Friday) mainly because hubby and i both cannot take leave easily. I work part-time, and Friday is my usual off-day. Hence Friday is the only day i could register. Well, I admit i spent the whole Friday morning thinking about which school to register at. I had 3 choices in mind - School A, B and C. I remember whatsapping hubby to ask him \"Which school ah?\" but it was useless because he replied, \"You decide la.\" Duh. To be honest, my order of preference was like this:

                      1) School A
                      2) School B
                      3) School C

School A and B are similar in terms of school culture(both are catholic schools; i think same founder) but i prefer School A to B because I have a direct bus to School A from my house but to get to School B, i need to transfer at interchange. All 3 schools are within 1-2km from my house. However, i know getting into School A is hard, because for many years, it conducted balloting for SG kids within 1 km, meaning i dont even get a chance to ballot. Last year, for the Tiger babies, it actually conducted balloting for those within 1-2km and the chance to get in was quite high. But why didnt i go for School A in the end? Because i was not a risk-taker. I knew that if i failed the balloting at School A, i may not get School B or C at phase 2C(S). Finally, at 2pm, after weighing the pros and cons, i decided to proceed to School C to register. I had been exchanging statistics with my friends regarding School B and I knew my girl could get in, but i chose School C in the end as we have a direct bus to School C.

1 year on, i must say I did not regret choosing School C. My girl loves school and i think the school's standards are quite high.

I feel distance is an important factor....and HOW you get to school is also very important. Imagine in future you want your child to go to school on his/her own and you feel safe knowing there is a direct bus. I dont really want my kids to take the school bus because they have to wake up so early. Kids nowadays lack a lot of sleep.

So, think thoroughly, fellow parents! šŸ™‚
