      grownupbaby:
Thanks all for the sharing. Visited GP who said the same thing, ie. to wait. No doctor will operate with abnormal thyroid reading....

      Again, thanks all!
all the best to you and hope you recover soon.

Thanks Schootopia. Hopefully cancer can wait for that long without deteriorating. Anything else that could be done, for example, food to take to speed up the process of correcting the hyper thyroidism?

Hi, For hyperthyroidism, there's no food to speed up the correcting process (a fren is an endocrinologist) so to speak. Generally you can do whatever you normally do, but if you really want to do something specially, you can try avoiding foods rich in potassium like seaweed. The important thing is more of NOT missing your medication. Get a pill box. If you do forget, the doc would have advised you to take the missed dose once you remember, even if it overlaps with the following dose, I suppose? Thyroid storm IS very dangerous; otherwise thyroid is non-threatening. Yup, our forummers are right, listen to your docs. Adjusting the dosage could take 3 to 6 months' time, since everyone's body reacts differently. Yoga is recommended by this doc fren for destressing. Get well soon & remember not to forget your medication.

I agree that Yoga can help destress and helps to regulate the thyroid hormones. My gf benefited from Yoga as she suffers from hyperthyroidism

My understanding as well is that RadioIodine is administered to \"remove\" the thyroid gland so to speak. Think of it as being a nuclear victim. This simple procedure is controlled & can only be performed at I think SGH? Talk to your docs again then. Take care.

my dad took radioactive iodine to lower his high index...but it didn't seem to work.

hi grownupbaby, i wish you a speedy recovery after the op...in the meantime, the doctor will know what's best. take care.

Hw come the radioiodine did not work fr ur father? Did he take another dose? Could it be the first dosage was too low?

that dose didn't work. he didn't go for another one.
he went back to the endocrinologist. strange thing is, after his heart blockage has been cleared, his t4 or tsh is now in the red and has to take thyroxine supplement. at the next appointment to see the heart doctor, i will ask him why a person with hyperthyroid would become hypothyroid?

Whenever she eats dairy or others, she will have diarrhea and hives . Is good that your dd only need to avoid seaweed. I think she needs to be gluten free and vegan šŸ˜ž
