Students who are among the top 10% or the top 200 participants, whichever is lower in the SMOPS will be invited to the Invitation Round and Prize Presentation Ceremony to be held on Saturday 29 May 2010 at the Hwa Chong Institution's campus .

      Hi, verykiasu2010,

Thank you very much for the information.

I had a misconception that platinum or gold medal winners are as rare as those of Olympic Games...
anyway 59 /50000 cohort = 0.12% or appr. 1 out of 1000, a good indicator of the intensity of the competition....

      oh, don't mention it !

it is better to say 59/3000, there may be some genius undiscovered who did not take part in the competition

however, among the 3000 of them, it is still very competitive

ya, a few undiscovered genius can 卧虎藏龙 until Sec or JC…

perhaps the heaty competition warrants the need for training…
By the way, the smops results are out already (by yesterday afternoon).

but this is round 1, right? so many platinums/golds/silvers/.....out of duno how many participants in total?

          Round 1 :

          59 platinum
          94 glod
          159 silver
          322 bronze

HCI says platinum is 2%, therefore approx 2950 taken part in the competition

          platinum + gold = 5% = 153 (approx 5%)
          silver = 5% = 159 (approx 5%)
A big congratulation to all awarded silver and above. You can join HCI via dsa liao... :celebrate:

Sadly but true, with so much competition, how valuable can a bronze be when there is platinum, gold and silver.

                :congrats: to all awardees!

Ermm, ApronMama, gold and platinum may be coveted by NUSH, but maybe not so much for HCI/RI.

For last year's dsa, there're kids with gold not accepted in hci, some waitlist in ri, and my son's classmate with platinum didnt get an offer from hci.

Of course, chances of success are higher for the awardees, but please focus on the psle, in case the dsa isn't successful.

are your kids upper primary? I find the upper primary ones good but the lower primary ones some stuff that are very very challenging for the average p1.

Yes. But if you were to compare it against the questions set in 08/09 NMOS book, you will see the discrepancy in standard. It's a good start, but not enough if your kid intends to sit for NMOS.
