[Bukit Merah] Primary Schools

Just to get some opinion here: between RMPS and Alexandra, which do you view is a better school and why?
RMPS has a good track record, Alexandra has yet to see its first batch of students graduate from PSLE but has a high-profile principal and vice principal. -

Just my 2 cents worth......Just to get some opinion here: between RMPS and Alexandra, which do you view is a better school and why?

From your comments, I would assume you are talking abt the academics aspect. As you have rightfully pointed out Alexandra has no track record, it would be impossible to compare at all on this aspect. But if you were to throw in the part on high profile principal portion, GESPS has a principal with a high profile as well. However, the school still don't seem to be as hot. So end of the day, I would think its perception of the parents, the public, how the feel abt the school, the vibes and so on. End of the day, everything adds up and perceptions are hard to change.

Titank, I think so too, due to the temporary relocation to a holding school. I went to the open house and the school is quite run down.
it's only temporary. holding schools are usually run down. when daughter's school was at the holding school (former first toa payoh primary) during the upgrading, there were many insects and she had to stick mosquito patches everyday as her classroom was near the grass patches. -

whether the school has an excellent track record or a high profile principal, parents still have to do their part and not expect the teachers to handle everything. if they are too busy or unable to coach, this is when tutors come in. many parents do feel sucked into the 'academic vacuum cleaner' when their kids enter p1.

the force of this vacuum cleaner getting stronger and stronger as the years goes by!!! -
Dino:
although i didn't want to push son so hard, there was this 'invisible pressure'...and despite the daily coaching, his results were just average in primary school. our focus was on him most of the time when he was in lower primary, come p3 and then p5, pressure gets worse year after year :frustrated:

All the phase 2CS BM schools still have vacancies into phase 3… Are there lesser kids going to p1 next year? if didn’t remember wrongly, past years saw some schools like kellock, gesps balloting at 2CS…
-
I think some of them maybe going for the parents old school, or siblings already in school outside bukit merah area. Because if i see from my neighborhood itself, actually have few kids around my daughter age, but they didn’t try for RMPS or others, some of them are going for some famous schools (due to having chance at earlier phases). Some even bought house to move near the famous school to get a chance into it (but eventually balloted out i heard).
I was thinking its good if the kids that my daughter met occasionally below the block or at the playground can be her classmate or something like that haha… but very less kids that we knew going for same school. -
