My DD is going through Stress, Depression and lack of Confidence. She is taking her A level Prelim Now. I feel the curriculum is difficult for her to cope. I am worried she may give up life. What should I do?

Planning to contact her form teacher today.

Is A level curriculum too difficult for an average student? I believe this year MOE changed the curriculum and even make it more hard. I do not know what to do another two months left for her final 'A' level exam.

Please share your opinion. Thank you

I hope your daughter's FT can help. If not, maybe see a counsellor? There should be one in school, or they can refer you to one.

The JC years can be hard, but the average JC student usually does quite well in the end. It varies by the JC, but even in the weakest JCs, more than a third of students will qualify for university. Of course, the choice of courses may be limited. The main thing is to be realistic about the desired outcomes, and be prepared to try something else if the first choice is not possible, and realise that it is not \"failure\" but an \"alternative choice\". Even strong students won't necessarily get what they are aiming for as there is stiff competition at all levels, and the most important is that they realise that not getting what theire first choice is not the end of the world.

My daughter is also taking A levels this year, and although she is not struggling academically, she is aiming for some competitive paths and may not get them, so I'm also reminding her not to focus on just a narrow range, but to be open to whatever comes. My older daughter took her A levels last year, and has always been quite a weak student - her teachers warned us that she was unlikely to get good enough grades to go to university. So she applied for a poly, didn't get her first choice, and got into another course. To our surprise, she did do well enough in the end to get into a couple of university courses, and she chose 1 of them, again not one she had considered before. Our main concern was to keep telling her that no matter what the route, as long as she kept going forward, it was OK, and not to compare with others.

Thank you for sharing your experience and giving support. I really appreciate. I spoke to FT and she too observed her depression. She gave strong support and word of encouragement. My DD is going to meet the counselor soon. Hope it will improve.
      Once again thank you

Anderson JC (though it will be merged with SRJC, things may change?)
          a) Start: 7.30am
          b) Located just opposite yio chu kang station, quite convenient
Buildings are said to be run-down though necessary facilities are available
There is a track and field
          c) 2 H2 and 2 H1 passes
          * retention will depend on aptitude, attitude and conduct as well (if a student fails to meet the criteria). Students who do not meet the requirements may be superannuated at the discretion of the College

I understand the J1s from various JCs last year had really tough papers. Yr daughter is in the first batch tackling the new syllabus. So her JC (in fact all JCs) will be setting pretty difficult prelims in preparation for a more application-based A lvl paper. There’s no precedence for the JCs from prev years so they will hv a tendency to overset their prelim papers this year. Take heart, she is not alone!

                Like to hear some opinions.

                Parents/Students of secondary 4 :
Will still consider enrol to the merging jcs (AJC, PJC, MJC, YJC)?
Or not considering at all (to avoid the merging state in 2019)?

Based on collated 2016 A level results ( don’t have full details though and TOP 11 position only ), ranking as follow ( not official):

(1-2) RI and HCI (not too sure which is number 1 but these 2 JC are TOP 2)
                    (3) VJC
                    (4). Dunman High IP
(5). NJC (40% got 3H2 Distinctions, pass in GP)
(6). NYJC (close to 40% got 3H2 Distinctions, pass in GP).
Nyjc results almost comparable to NJC.
                    (7-8) ACJC and RV IP
(RV has 31% got 3 H2 Distinctions, pass in GP)
(ACJC UAS is about 81 points)
                    (9) TJC (UAS 80 points)
                    (10) AJC (139 students got at least 3 H2 Distinctions). About 20-22% if based on enrolment of about 650.
                    (11) SAJC (16.9% got 3H2 Distinctions)

                      😂 I can see that you haven't changed a bit, Crester-san.

You are still obsessed with JC ranking especially in promoting your DS/DD's NYJC! Are you still trying to convince yourself that you have made the right choice for your kid? Seems like you are uncertain since last year.

Most importantly, your kid must perform well at A-level disregarding which JC he/she is in.

There's no point being in a good JC but perform poorly and constantly suffering from low morale. On the other hand, one can still perform well at A-level in a lower ranking JC and enjoy himself with great confidence and good spirit.
You can't measure nor compare quantifiable and non-quantifiable factors anyway and life is not just about school results.

It will be better if you could share how your DS/DD personally benefit from the NYJC program or her experience over these 2 years if you are eager to promote NYJC 😄 .

I ain't here to start an argument with you, mindays. You are another person who loves to promote NYJC from the day you appeared in KSP. I hope both you and Crester are not representative of the majority NYJC parents. Both of you are always out to demean other JCs and uplift NYJC which is disgraceful on your part.

I will see NYJC in a much better light if you parents can stop acting like clowns for your DC's (NY)JC. Enough is enough. You are tarnishing NYJC's image if you continue to promote it this way. I think you and Crester seriously lack confidence in how others view NYJC. Is NYJC really that bad? Can I say the NTU guy who posted the above was from NYJC? :siam:
