My DD just told me that one of her friends were considering skipping her scholarship interview just so as to not miss their last Children’s Day celebration which is on the same day.

There were students from SOTA whom I know are pursuing medicine, computer science and non art related areas, the new policy with one science will narrow students' choice now. If DC is very sure at this age that art is the only area in the future, then no consideration if double or one science.Hi, for those who really eyeing double sciences for Years 5 and 6, I don't suggest SOTA. The Science foundation from Years 1-4 is different from ACSI IB Years 1-4. SOTA's focus is on the Arts.

From what I learnt talking to the Science Teacher at TA, the issue of only doing one science is flexible. Yes, it effectively means giving up one’s art form as per IB subject groupings if you choose double science, but from my understanding, SOTA would form a class for double science on a needs basis each year for "exceptional" students. Interestingly, one of the students asked to present a talk at TA to parents was a Y3 student who has fallen in love with science and is seriously considering pursuing two sciences. Also, I know of another IB student from a non MOE International School (who is on track for 45) who only has one Science but is looking at pursuing a Biomed degree overseas. She has done her research, spoke to admissions at the Uni she is hoping to go to and was told specifically that her subject choice re one science is adequate for entry and she did NOT need to drop her Artform. I think it depends on where and what specifically you are choosing to study, as it differs from Uni to Uni. There are many in SOTA who discover a latent love for science (maybe it’s the way it’s taught?) and are caught in this dilemma but are told they can still stay in SOTA despite dropping artform, provided they can timetable the double science.

After the first year, scholars have to be both in the top 30% of their cohort in academics and in the top 30% in their art form for their scholarships to continue each year. -

Does it mean that since the exams hold only 60 to 70% of the final score, it is not as detailed and intensive compared to A levels? Do most students go for tuition? How about SOTA - do the Teachers follow up closely on students and offer help or hold extra classes for the weaker ones? Thanks.

does it mean if not shortlisted now for this scholarship interview, there is no chance for this scholarship? how are students selected? -

My DD results is average, only her English she does very well. When we received the call we asked what led to my DD being shortlisted and they mentioned that it was based on her performance in the TA.timewilltell:

For Year 1 the David Marshall scholarship is based on performance at TA. Subsequently based on results for academics and art form as mentioned. So possible for students not offered in Year 1 to be offered in other years. Likewise, some students offered in Year 1 may not be able to keep the scholarship in subsequent years if they do not meet the mark.
