      HYTam86:

I can't remember exactly :scratchhead: ... If not wrong dat day she said some hotel in City Hall, can see St Andrew Cathedral one.

Is it the 5 star Fairmount Hotel? http://www.fairmont.com/singapore/ Near Bras Basah? It would be quite worth the $90 if it is held there.

Perhaps dat wasnt what the students are looking out for? Guess the sch shd have done smthing abt it given it is quite a big sunk cost to book such venue :moneyflies:

Tbh actually if the students enjoyed thr 2 yrs in JC and had forged lasting friendships, den going without a legit prom event dont really matter much le (dats our mentality back den). If dats how the students r looking at it den dats really commendable le... nowadays not easy to find so many young people having such realistic mentality le. šŸ™‚

Those who join Nanyang JC in first year (JC1) : how do they assign JAE students, into various classes ?

Is it based on O-level score entry for L1R5 (e.g. : all the 6-pointers form 1 class), or is it just randomly mix them all up, regardless of what score they have ?

Or are the JC1 classes formed, based on what A level subject combination they take ?

          E.g.
Those taking double Humanities : form 1 class, while those taking double Sciences (e.g. : H2 Physics & Chem) : form another class, while those taking (H2 Bio & Chem) : form 3rd class, etc ?

          Or
Are the classes formed, based on what Cca they taking ?

NYJC (in fact all JCs do the same with minor differences) assign classes base on subject combinations.

So those with the common combi (BCME(4H2) or PCME(4H2)) would be usually assigned to the same class. For the rest of the cohort taking combi with headcount less than abt 60 (I m using HCJC's quota NY may differ slightly), the class would be assigned based on timetabling availability (so these classes would have variations in combi, but will at least 2/3 subjects in common). (Given NY is very open for subj combi so a class of students can be taking quite varied subjects)

So for my friend, his cohort is:
            1301-1310: BCM(H2/H1)
            1311-1323: PCME
            1324-1331: Mixed

In JC the academic performances are quite evened out usually, so no nid to worry abt the classes too much.

How are the Econs Teacher like, here?

If just rely on the Econs tr here to teach the subject, without any tuition, is it difficult to score A for Econs (H2)?

Hi! From my experience as a former student there NY hav quite a number of very good econs teachers (listing a few: Mr Haniss, Mr Tan (aka \"TYS\"), Mr Derick Lee, Mr Toh, Mr Ong). They always encourage us to be critical and analytical and not sticking to facts, since in Econs we are doin a form of economic analysis on a particular situation. Like what Mr Haniss (he was my econs tutor in J2) said \" econs in itself is a philosophy\".

Tbh wit everyone (guess all NYJCians would agree wit me oso), NYJC's econs is basically \"tutors are godly, lessons are insightful, notes toooo messy\". Our notes are very very informative and deeep, but its definitely not for quick revision and understanding (given information r all linked here and there). A lot of us went to outsource other JC's notes for quick revision and self-study alongside our own notes (I personally recommend Hwa Chong's notes. Hwa Chong is very organised and precise for foundation but not for A1 with dat alone (Ask @Liangbrolovesoccer he knew it very well XD))

Is enuf to just rely on the tutors in NY without any tution, regular consultations are much more useful to keep track of the essay skills and content. But 1 thing is dat u must always read beforehand and be prepared before going for consultations or else will be a waste of time. Most importantly dont just mug content coz der key to any economic analysis is to apply rationally to context of the question (really a lot of real life logic there if u can get it den econs shd b no issue alrd). šŸ˜‰

                        a) 8.30 am. At times, there are make up lessons or consultation in the morning.

                        b) the environment:
                        - conducive learning environment where the college is opened during both weekends and school holidays ( library is opened too ) for Nyjc students to go back to self study.
                        - Nyjc students can book consultations with teachers during mid June/Sept holidays and the teachers are willing to go back to coach the students.

                        - campus is breezy, bright and spacious with many study areas.
